Daniel Siad was a 69-year-old French model scout, Algerian born and also a Swedish and French citizen. The Epstein files, with over 2,000 hits on his name, show him procuring girls and women for Epstein by approaching them on the street with offers of modelling work in New York.

The files describe Siad on a retainer of three thousand euro a month plus a five percent commission on whatever the women he procured went on to earn. Payments sometimes hit anti-money laundering checks, and Epstein had his accountant make a $25,000 loan to Siad's model scouting company in Dubai.

The operation went on for over a decade, with the files showing at least ten years of communications and references to them working together about six years earlier. He scouted in Havana, Cuba, Morocco, Thailand, Sweden, Hungary, Slovakia, across Eastern Europe, Paris, and often Barcelona and Spain.

Siad approached the former French model on the Champs-Élysées and arranged a plane ticket. In New York, Epstein, presenting himself as a businessman, took her passport, gave her $120, then asked her to undress for an inspection and offered work as a private hostess. She demanded her passport and eventually got it back.

O'Leary says he created a feeling of indebtedness, posing as a benevolent financier who would secure their future, giving small sums of money and paying for things like plastic surgery or tuition. It mirrors the tactics he used on teenagers in Florida, for which he was convicted in 2008.

French police said there was not enough evidence to make an arrest. He was under active investigation with telephone surveillance, and they wanted extra evidence before interviewing him. O'Leary struggles to see why he could not be brought in based on the Epstein files, and victims' lawyers call it inexcusable impunity.

In February, former Swedish model Ebba Carlson, now in her 50s, filed the first complaint, accusing Siad of raping her when she was 20. According to reporting by the Times, she recognised his unredacted photo in the Epstein files, which brought her back to the incident.

Siad and Brunel, another model scout who founded an agency with Epstein's money, had worked together closely. Emails show Siad accused Brunel of not paying his commission on women who went on to earn money, and he told Epstein that Brunel was unreliable and he did not want to work with him.

Paris prosecutors say they are still investigating and the investigation will continue, though it is unclear who is left to prosecute. Siad died of unestablished causes, following Epstein, found hanged in prison, and Brunel, found dead in his cell, so key evidence has again died with a crucial figure.
