CEA-708 captions

CEA-708 is the digital-television caption standard in North America, supporting multiple windows, fonts, colors and more languages than the analog CEA-608 it superseded.

708 is what modern broadcast and cable delivery actually uses, usually with 608 data embedded for backward compatibility. Streaming platforms mostly use their own formats (VTT variants), so 708 matters mainly at the broadcast hand-off.
