SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing)

SDH subtitles combine the translation role of subtitles with the accessibility content of captions — speaker labels and sound descriptions — in markets or formats where true closed captions are not available.

SDH exists largely because some delivery formats only support subtitle tracks; adding captioning conventions to a subtitle track gets accessibility without the caption infrastructure. Streaming platforms list SDH as a distinct track type.
