How long is a Twitch VOD kept? often only a week, so act fast.
Twitch keeps past broadcasts for a limited time that depends on the account: commonly about 7 days, longer for affiliates, and up to about 60 days for partners and some subscription perks, while highlights and uploads stay until they are deleted. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. VODs over 6 hours start once a pack is on.
Before the VOD expires
How long you have, and how to keep the words.
The retention window
Twitch sets how long a past broadcast stays by account type and has changed the numbers before, so check the storage settings in your creator dashboard. If the window is a week, Monday's stream is gone by the next Monday.
Keep the video, too
Turning a broadcast into a highlight keeps it beyond the window, within whatever storage allowance Twitch applies. You can also download a past broadcast from the creator dashboard and keep the file; it uploads here later, the box taking 500 MB and bigger files going to the upload page.
The words, in minutes
Paste the VOD link the day you stream. A 5-hour broadcast is text in about 10 minutes, with a brief, chapters with timestamps and the names, numbers and dates said; co-streamers and guests are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
A month of streaming
Three 4-hour streams a week for four weeks come to 2,880 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.
Expiring VODs
Most VODs vanish before anyone uses them.

FAQ
Twitch VODs, answered.
Can I transcribe a VOD after it expires?
Not from the link: once Twitch deletes a past broadcast, the link no longer works. If you downloaded the file or made it a highlight, upload that or paste the highlight link instead.
Why does my 7-hour VOD need a pack?
Stream recordings over 6 hours start once a pack is on the account. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.
How quickly do I need to act?
On the shortest retention, within a few days to be safe. Pasting the link right after the stream means the VOD's length is the only wait: about 2 minutes per hour of audio.
What about a VOD over 10 hours?
Download it, export the audio, split it into parts under 10 hours and upload them. Minutes are counted on running time, so the parts cost the same as one file would.
Does it work for Kick and YouTube streams?
Yes. Kick VODs and YouTube live replays go in by link with the same 10-hour limit and the same 6-hour rule. For other platforms, download the recording and upload it.
Is the stream audio kept private?
It is transcribed on our own servers and never used for training. Your first stream under 6 hours gets its free preview of the opening minutes, which shows you the text before any pack.
