How to get an SRT for a long video, in one file.
Upload the video or paste its link, wait about 2 minutes per hour of footage, and download the SRT: one subtitle file timed to the whole video, for files up to 10 hours or 5 GB. The first 20 minutes are free, uploads before a first pack stop at 2 GB, and a 2-hour video of 120 minutes takes about 4 minutes and fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
Video to subtitles
A subtitle file for hours of footage, without re-timing a single cue.
Send the video
Upload the MP4, MOV or WEBM, or paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Drive, Twitch or Kick link. Long 1080p video is heavy, often several gigabytes for two hours, so if the file is over 2 GB and no pack is on the account yet, either buy the pack first or export only the audio track. An audio export is usually a few hundred megabytes, and nothing is lost for subtitles, since only speech is transcribed.
Download the SRT
When the transcript is ready, the SRT sits among the exports with VTT, DOCX, TXT and JSON. Every cue has a start and end time on the video's own clock, so a cue at 01:58:03 lines up with the frame at 01:58:03 without any offset, even near the end of a long file.
Load it where the video plays
Add it in YouTube Studio as a subtitle file, attach it to the video on Vimeo, drop it onto the timeline in your editor, or keep it next to the video with the same file name so desktop players pick it up. Use VTT for players on a web page. You add the file yourself in each case; nothing connects to those tools on its own.
Subtitles in another language
WhipScribe translates a finished transcript into any of 99 languages with the same timestamps, so the translated SRT and VTT stay aligned with the picture. Translation is AI output, so have someone who speaks that language read it before a public release.
Splitting a video for subtitles
Cutting a long video to fit a limit means re-timing every cue afterwards.

FAQ
SRT files for long videos, answered.
How long does an SRT for a 3-hour video take?
About 6 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of video. A 90-minute film takes about 3 minutes, and a 10-hour recording about 20.
Can I get an SRT for a video longer than 10 hours?
One file can run up to 10 hours, so a longer video goes up as two files and comes back as two SRTs. The second starts at 00:00:00; shift it by the length of part one in a subtitle editor, or publish the video as two parts.
What does an SRT for a long video cost?
A 3-hour video is 180 minutes and fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A course of twelve 90-minute videos is 1,080 minutes, which needs the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor, and exports open with a pack.
Do the subtitles name the speakers?
Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. The SRT holds the spoken text and the cue times, which is what video players expect from it.
Will music and sound effects get subtitles?
No. Only speech is transcribed, so music, sound effects and crowd noise produce no cues, and a music-only intro simply stays without subtitles.
Is my video kept private?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Delete the video and its transcript whenever you are done with them.
