Timestamped chapters · 4 hours in ~8 min

How do you get chapters for a long video? Let the transcript find the topics.

Upload the video or paste its YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick or Google Drive link, and the transcript comes back with chapters: one per topic, each with its start time, ready to tidy and paste into a description. A 4-hour video takes about 8 minutes (one file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB). Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.

Four hours, in sections

From long video to a chapter list.

Chapters come from what is said

The chapters follow the speech: where the topic changes, a new chapter starts, with a short title and the time. A tutorial splits by step, a stream by segment, a conference recording by talk.

Make them fit YouTube

YouTube reads chapters from timestamps in the description. The list must start at 0:00, and YouTube wants at least three chapters of at least ten seconds each. Copy the times, shorten the titles to how your viewers speak, and add a 0:00 intro line if the first chapter starts later.

Send it however it lives

A video already online is fetched from its link: YouTube (including live replays), Vimeo, Twitch and Kick VODs, Google Drive. A file on your computer goes through the upload page; up to 5 GB it uploads, with or without a pack on the account.

Everything else in the same pass

Besides chapters you get the transcript, a brief with thesis and takeaways, the names, numbers and dates said, a chat, and subtitles as SRT or VTT. The summary, key quotes and chapters name the speakers.

Chaptering by hand

Why long videos often go without chapters.

✗ Scrubbing and noting

Writing chapters means watching the whole video again with a notepad.

  • Four hours rewatched to mark topics
  • Times copied wrong by a few minutes
  • Chapters only for the first hour
  • Titles that don't match what was said
  • Livestreams left as one long block
  • No transcript to check against

✓ Chapters from the text

Chapters come with the transcript, and you only edit them.

  • A chapter per topic
  • Start times from the transcript clock
  • Links fetched without download
  • About eight minutes for four hours
  • Subtitles in the same pass
  • Packs from $4 for 300 minutes

Sample output

Chapters from a 4-hour livestream, as they might be pasted.

Illustrative, not a real stream. Times are where each topic began on the video's clock.

FAQ

Chapters for long videos, answered.

How do I get chapters for a long video automatically?

Upload the video or paste its link. The chapters come back with the transcript, each with a start time and a title. Edit the titles if you like, then paste the list into your video description or your notes.

How long does it take for a 4-hour video?

About 8 minutes once it has arrived, since processing runs near 2 minutes per hour of audio. Links are fetched on the server, so there is no upload from your computer to wait for.

What does it cost?

Four hours is 240 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. Four weekly 4-hour streams come to 960 minutes a month, which fits the $18 pack of 3,000. Credits never expire.

My streams run 8 hours. Does that work?

Yes, one file can run up to 10 hours. Stream recordings (Twitch, Kick or YouTube Live VODs) longer than 6 hours start once a pack is on the account. A stream past 10 hours goes in as two files, each with its own chapters.

Will chapters appear on YouTube by themselves?

No. Nothing is posted to your channel. You copy the chapter list into the description in YouTube Studio, where YouTube turns the timestamps into chapters if the list starts at 0:00 and has at least three entries.

What about music-only segments and privacy?

Music and sound effects are not transcribed, so a long music break shows up as a gap between chapters. Streams and videos are processed on our own servers and never used for training.
