How to transcribe a recording with accents no setting, just the file.
Upload the recording without choosing anything: the language is detected automatically from 99, speakers with any accent are transcribed as ordinary speech, and one file takes up to 10 hours or 5 GB (2 GB before your first pack) at about 2 minutes per audio hour. Try the strongest accent in the first 20 free minutes; a 2-hour seminar with speakers from five countries uses 120 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack.
Accented speech
The accent matters less than the microphone.
Nothing to configure
There is no list of regional variants to pick from. The main language of the recording is detected, and the speech is transcribed in it, whether the speakers grew up in Glasgow, Lagos, Manila, Montreal or Mumbai. A room with five different accents is still one upload, and the speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters whatever their accent.
What actually helps
A heavy accent on a clear, close recording usually reads better than a familiar one on a distant phone. Put the microphone near the speakers, keep the room quiet, and ask people to finish their sentences before the next person starts.
Check the proper nouns
Place names, surnames and local terms are where any transcript most often needs a correction. The brief lists the names, numbers and dates that were said, so you can scan them in one place, and each passage has a timestamp for a quick listen. The box here takes up to 500 MB; a larger file continues on the main upload page.
Speakers who switch language
Many accented speakers also drop words from their first language. Detection settles on the recording's main language and English terms inside other languages are handled. If a session falls into long blocks of two languages, upload each block as its own file.
Accents, handled
Most accent trouble is really recording trouble.
✗ What causes errors
The usual culprits in an international room, and none of them is the accent itself.
- A phone across the room from the speaker
- Two people talking over each other
- A low-bitrate copy from a chat app
- Unusual names never checked
- Long blocks of a second language in one file
- Paying before testing a short stretch
✓ What works
Simple steps for international rooms, set up before anyone starts talking.
- A microphone near whoever is talking
- One voice at a time
- The original file from the device
- Names and numbers scanned in the brief
- Long language blocks uploaded separately
- The hardest speaker tested free

FAQ
Accents: the follow-up questions.
How do I transcribe a recording with accents?
Upload it as it is. The language is detected automatically from 99, there is no accent setting, and files run up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Test the strongest speaker in the first 20 free minutes: if the opening is the easy part, trim a copy so that it starts with the speaker you are least sure of.
Does an accent cost more?
No. Price depends only on running time. A 90-minute interview with a speaker of any accent draws 90 minutes from the pack, the same as any other 90 minutes.
Will unusual names be spelled right?
Sometimes not, with any accent. The names, numbers and dates said are listed in the brief so you can check them together, and every passage has a timestamp so you can listen and correct.
What about a whole term of international seminars?
Twelve 2-hour seminars are 1,440 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. Credits never expire, so the remainder covers next term's first few sessions. A conference with thirty hour-long talks, 1,800 minutes, fits the same pack.
Can I upload a recording over 2 GB?
Yes, up to 5 GB, once a pack is on the account; before the first pack, uploads go up to 2 GB. A seminar longer than 10 hours goes in as two files.
Which exports come with it, and is it private?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training.
