Transcribe a long DVR recorder file from a full day on the recorder to searchable text.
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. Most voice recorders save MP3, WAV or WMA, which upload as they are up to 10 hours or 5 GB; if the upload refuses a file, convert it to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC.
Three kinds of DVR
DVR can mean a pocket voice recorder, a security system or a TV box. The route to a transcript differs for each.
Digital voice recorders
The handheld recorders people leave running through lectures, interviews, board meetings and fieldwork. They usually write MP3, WAV or WMA, sometimes with a model-specific setting for linear PCM. Copy the file off the device or its card over USB and it is normally ready to upload without any change.
Security and CCTV recorders
A security DVR exports clips through its own backup menu or viewer app, often in a format specific to the vendor. Many camera systems record no sound at all, so play the export and confirm there is speech before spending minutes. If there is, the vendor's player can usually save an AVI or MP4; otherwise convert with ffmpeg or VLC.
Getting a big file in
The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB; a long WAV is usually bigger, so it continues on the upload page, still up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Files up to 5 GB start straight away; a larger file can be split or sent as audio.
What comes back
A brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates said aloud, the questions the recording answers, and a chat over the transcript. Speakers are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Export TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
Leaving it on the recorder
A recorder that ran all day holds the whole meeting and none of the notes.
✗ Playing it back in real time
Hours of audio on a card are only as useful as the time you have to listen.

- Scrubbing for one remark
- Notes typed while listening
- Files named by date and number only
- Old cards filling a drawer
- Nothing searchable across a project
✓ Uploaded and transcribed
The recorder's own file goes up as it is, and the text comes back the same hour.
- 6 hours back in about 12 minutes
- Chapters with timestamps
- Names, figures and dates listed
- DOCX for the minutes
- A chat to find a quote
- Packs from $4 for 300 minutes

FAQ
Long DVR recordings: questions
Does a voice recorder file need converting first?
Usually not. MP3 and WAV from a voice recorder upload as they are, and WMA normally does too. Convert only if the upload refuses the file: ffmpeg or VLC can turn it into an MP3 in a minute or two.
How big is an hour on a voice recorder?
It depends on the recording mode. MP3 at 128 kbps is about 58 MB an hour, so a 6-hour day is about 346 MB and fits the box on this page. Linear PCM WAV at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo is about 635 MB an hour, so the same day is roughly 3.8 GB: it goes through the main upload page and uploads with or without a pack, since it is under 5 GB.
The recorder ran for 13 hours. What now?
One file can be up to 10 hours. Split the recording into two parts, for example at a break, and upload each; together they use 780 minutes, which the $18 pack (3,000 minutes) covers with 2,220 left.
What does a month of recorded interviews cost?
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. Every recording starts with a free preview of its opening minutes; a longer recording is previewed, and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview ended.
Can I transcribe a security DVR clip?
Only if it has an audio track, and many CCTV systems record video only. If the export plays with sound, upload it, or convert the vendor format to MP4 first. It is an AI transcript to work from, not a certified or official transcript, and not legal advice.
Languages, exports and privacy?
99 languages are detected automatically, including recordings that mix in English terms. Music and background noise are not transcribed; the speech is. Exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
