Transcribe a long raw PCM file headerless audio, made readable.
A long raw PCM file has no header, so it is converted to WAV or MP3 with its sample rate, bit depth and channels stated, and then a 4-hour recording transcribes in about 8 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, 240 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500, and at 16 kHz, 16-bit mono an hour of raw PCM is about 115 MB.
Raw PCM, explained
Just the samples, one after another, with nothing to say how fast to play them.
Where raw PCM comes from
Raw PCM is what many devices and programs write when nobody asked for a file format: phone apps built on the system recorder, embedded and IoT recorders, speech SDKs that dump their input, capture tools and some game or streaming setups. The extension is often .pcm or .raw, and sometimes there is no extension at all.
Four facts you need
To read the file, a converter needs the sample rate (8, 16, 44.1 or 48 kHz are common), the bit depth (usually 16), the number of channels and the byte order (almost always little-endian). The device's documentation or the app's settings usually say. A wrong rate plays too fast or too slow; a wrong bit depth or byte order plays as loud static.
Converting it
If the upload refuses the file, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC. ffmpeg needs the four facts in the command: ffmpeg -f s16le -ar 16000 -ac 1 -i capture.pcm capture.mp3. In Audacity, the raw data import asks the same questions; menus vary by version. Upload the result here, or on upload page if it is over 500 MB.
What comes back
Once converted, a long recording returns a brief of its main points, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates said, the questions it answers, and a chat over the text. Each speaker is identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
Why raw PCM gets stuck
The audio is perfect. It just has no label, so every program guesses and most guess wrong.
✗ A file nothing will play
Double-click the .pcm and the computer asks which app to use, then fails.
- Players that cannot open headerless audio

FAQ
Long raw PCM files, the common questions.
Will a raw PCM file upload as it is?
Rarely. Without a header the upload cannot tell it is audio, and even if it got through, nobody would know the rate. Convert it to MP3 or WAV first with the four facts stated.
How big is raw PCM per hour?
8 kHz, 16-bit mono is about 58 MB; 16 kHz mono about 115 MB; 44.1 kHz stereo about 635 MB; 48 kHz, 16-bit stereo about 691 MB; 48 kHz, 24-bit stereo about 1 GB. At 48 kHz, 16-bit stereo, 2 GB arrives near 2.9 hours and 5 GB near 7.2 hours, so convert to MP3 for anything long.
How long does transcription take?
About 2 minutes per audio hour after upload: a 4-hour file in roughly 8 minutes, a 10-hour one in about 20.
What does a project cost?
A week of field logging at six hours a day for five days is 1,800 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000. A project of 80 hours, 4,800 minutes, fits the $24 pack of 5,000. On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free, and credits never expire.
Does a higher sample rate give a better transcript?
Not by itself. 16 kHz mono already carries everything speech needs. Upsampling an 8 kHz file adds nothing, so keep the rate the device recorded at.
Which languages, and is the file kept private?
99 languages are detected automatically, and English inside another language is handled. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. A capture longer than 10 hours goes in as two files.
