Transcribe a long recording edited in WavePad saved as MP3 or WAV.
Save the edited recording from WavePad as an MP3 or WAV file (the Save File As option in the File menu, in most versions) and upload it here, up to 10 hours or 5 GB. A 3.5-hour recording is text in about 7 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and its 210 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
A free editor, a long recording
WavePad tidied the long recording. A transcript makes it something you can read in ten minutes.
Choose MP3 for long files
When saving, pick MP3 for long speech: at 128 kbps an hour is about 58 MB, so 3.5 hours is roughly 200 MB and fits the box on this page. A stereo WAV of the same length is about 2.2 GB.
Joined several recordings?
If you stitched a day of separate recordings together in WavePad, the transcript follows the joined file, with one set of timestamps from the start. Keeping them as separate files keeps each one's own clock. Either way, the chapters show where each part begins.
A term of recordings
Ten 3.5-hour recordings make 2,100 minutes, just past the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, so a full set like that goes on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes with 2,900 left for later.
When the file is large
Files up to 500 MB upload in the box here. A larger WAV goes to the upload page, up to 5 GB per file, or 2 GB before your first pack.
Edited, but still long
Trimming the silence makes the recording shorter. It does not make it quicker to read.

FAQ
WavePad recordings, answered.
How long does a 3.5-hour recording take?
About 7 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 9.31-hour file on the proof page was done in 1,033 seconds.
What will a term of recordings cost?
First-time visitors get the first 20 minutes free; a longer recording is previewed and a pack transcribes the rest. One 3.5-hour file is 210 minutes on the $6 pack. Ten of them, 2,100 minutes, need the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes, while nine (1,890 minutes) still fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
Which WavePad format should I save in?
MP3 is the simplest for long speech. WAV, FLAC and M4A upload too; whatever you choose, save the audio itself rather than a project or session file. If the recording came from a phone or a handheld recorder, the original file uploads just as well, so editing is optional.
Should I remove silence before uploading?
It is not needed. Silence costs no effort to transcribe, though it does count as recording time, so trimming a long empty stretch saves minutes from your pack.
What if the recording is longer than 10 hours?
Save it as two files at a natural pause and upload both. Each can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and each half keeps its own timestamps, counted from the start of that file.
Which downloads come back, and is the audio private?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Files are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
