Transcribe recordings made in the street with the traffic going past.
A vox pop session or walking interview recorded in the street comes back as text at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a two-hour walk is ready in roughly 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the rest of that walk and a day of vox pops besides.
What the street does to the audio
Wind, buses and a microphone that keeps moving.
Wind is the enemy
Outdoors, the loudest thing on a recording is usually wind on the microphone, followed by buses, sirens and a busker. None of it is speech, so none of it is typed. A foam cover or even a hand cupped around the phone does more for the transcript than anything done afterwards.
Many short voices
A vox pop session is dozens of strangers answering the same question in under a minute each. Kept as one recording, it comes back with chapters at each change, and key quotes carry timestamps, which makes picking the six usable answers quick.
A walk, priced
A two-hour walking interview is 120 minutes, which fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes after the first 20 free. A week of fieldwork with ten such walks, 1,200 minutes, goes on the $12 pack of 2,000.
Where you were standing
A walking interview often refers to places on the route: the old mill, the corner shop, the bridge. The brief lists the places, names and dates said, and the chat finds the moment someone described a particular building.
Why street audio fails elsewhere
Movement, wind and long recordings in one file.
✗ What tends to go wrong
Tools tuned for a quiet desk give up on a recording that moves, or stop at the half-hour mark.
- Half-hour limits on free accounts
- Cutting out every vox pop by hand
- A siren guessed into a word
- No timestamp to find the good answer
- Fieldwork typed up for days
- Text with no summary or chapters
✓ The street, readable
One upload, and every voice comes back in order with its time.
- About 4 minutes for a two-hour walk
- The first 20 minutes free
- $6 buys 500 minutes once
- Wind and traffic left out
- Quotes tied to the clock
- Exports for an edit or a report

FAQ
Street recordings, the common questions
How long does a street recording take to transcribe?
An hour of sound needs about 2 minutes to come back as text. A two-hour walking interview is ready in roughly 4 minutes; a 40-minute vox pop session in under 2.
What does a day of fieldwork cost?
A day of vox pops and one walking interview, say three hours, is 180 minutes on the $6 pack of 500. Ten walks of two hours in a week, 1,200 minutes, go on the $12 pack of 2,000. A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free before either.
I filmed the walk. Will the video upload?
Any one recording may be as long as 10 hours or as large as 5 GB, whichever comes sooner. A first-time account uploads up to 2 GB, and a file past that waits to start until a pack is on the account. If a long video is over the line, upload the audio alone; it carries everything that gets transcribed.
Should I upload each vox pop separately?
Either way works. Separate clips give one transcript each; one long recording gives one transcript with chapters. Nothing needs splitting unless a file runs past 10 hours.
What if people answer in different languages?
The system recognises 99 languages without a setting. A recording is detected on its main language, so a session mostly in Spanish is transcribed as Spanish, and English with Tagalog switching in one recording is handled.
Which formats can I export, and is the audio private?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON from one run; SRT and VTT drop straight into an edit. Street recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
