Transcribe an isiZulu imbizo or community meeting.

An imbizo recorded in isiZulu, three to five hours of residents raising issues and officials answering them, comes back as text in about 6 to 10 minutes. The language is detected from the audio, the first 20 minutes are free, and a five-hour meeting uses 300 of the 500 minutes on a $6 pack.

Made for the long community meeting

Every complaint, every promise and every name of a street, written down while people still remember the day.

Back before the hall is locked

Transcription runs at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a five-hour imbizo is text in roughly 10 minutes. Whoever recorded it can start the report the same afternoon instead of replaying the meeting for a week.

isiZulu first, English where it was spoken

isiZulu is among the 99 languages recognised from the sound itself. When an official answers in English and the next resident replies in isiZulu, the file is handled on its main language and the switches come through in the text.

One chapter for each issue

Water, roads, housing, electricity, the clinic queue: the meeting is split into chapters with timestamps, so the twenty minutes about one ward's road can be found and quoted without scrolling the whole afternoon. Long phone or camera files go through upload page.

The promises, listed

The brief pulls out the names, dates and numbers that were said and the questions the meeting answered. Ask the chat what was promised about the water tanker and it points to the minute the answer was given.

Why imbizo recordings go unread

The meeting was recorded, and then nobody had five spare hours to listen again.

✗ Five hours on a phone

A long community meeting is easy to record and hard to use: the questions people care about are buried at unknown minutes.

  • A full afternoon to replay one meeting
  • Handwritten notes that miss half the speakers
  • Apps that give up after sixty minutes
  • Services with no isiZulu option at all
  • Monthly plans for a meeting held a few times a year
  • No way to show residents what was said

✓ A text of the whole meeting

The recording becomes a document people can search, quote and circulate.

  • Five hours of meeting in about 10 minutes
  • isiZulu detected, English switches handled
  • Chapters per issue, each with a time
  • Ward names, figures and dates listed
  • DOCX for the report, TXT to share
  • A whole imbizo inside one $6 pack

Sample

Four moments from an imbizo, as the text comes back.

These lines are illustrative and were written for this page; they are not from a real meeting. In English they read: a welcome, a complaint about water, a question about a road, and a promise to report back.

FAQ

isiZulu imbizo recordings, the questions people ask.

How long does a five-hour imbizo take to transcribe?

About 10 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio, and a three-hour meeting about 6. Our public proof shows 4.94 hours finished in 372 seconds. The text is saved to your Library, so the tab can be closed while it runs.

What does a five-hour meeting cost, and which pack fits?

Five hours is 300 minutes, which the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers with 200 minutes left for the next one. If you transcribe ten four-hour meetings in a year, that is 2,400 minutes, and the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes holds them with room to spare. Prices are in US dollars and minutes never expire.

The camera file is very large. Will it upload?

A single recording may last up to 10 hours or weigh up to 5 GB. Until a pack is on the account the upload ceiling is 2 GB; past that, the file waits for the pack and then starts. If the imbizo was streamed to YouTube, paste the link and skip the upload altogether.

Should I cut the recording at the lunch break?

No. Anything under 10 hours goes in as one file and the chapters do the dividing. If the camera itself started a new file after the break, upload both parts and each gets its own text.

Is isiZulu really detected without choosing it?

Yes. isiZulu is detected from the audio, and a meeting held mostly in isiZulu with English answers is transcribed on its main language with the switches handled. Read the names of people, wards and streets once before you circulate anything, since those are the words any machine is least sure of.

What do I get back, and who can see the imbizo recording?

TXT and DOCX for the report, SRT and VTT for captions on a posted video, and JSON for anyone building on it. Community meeting recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete them from your Library whenever you choose.
