How it works

Three steps from a Captivate episode page to text.

No download, no converter, nothing to install: the episode link does the work.

1

Copy the episode link

Open the episode on the show's Captivate site. The address looks like yourshow.captivate.fm/episode/episode-title; copy it from the address bar.

2

Paste it above

Captivate episode pages carry the episode's audio file, so the link is all we need. The preview appears with no signup.

3

Read and export

Check who said what in the summary and key quotes. Export TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON; the transcript stays in your searchable library.

The link that works

Paste the episode page: yourshow.captivate.fm/episode/…. We checked a public page of this form and it points straight at the episode MP3. Paste the episode's own page, not the show's front page.

If the link doesn't go through

If a link won't go through, paste the episode's direct MP3 link or the show's RSS feed instead (a feed link lists the show's episodes to choose from), or download the audio and upload the file. Files can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB; the box on this page takes files up to 500 MB, and larger files continue on the upload page.

What you can do with the transcript

What Captivate podcasters do with a transcript.

One transcript per episode feeds your notes, captions and archive. More ideas on podcast transcripts.

Show notes without re-listening

Skim for the moments worth naming, lift the guest's exact words for a pull quote, and use timestamps so listeners can jump ahead.

Captions for video clips

Cutting a vertical clip or a full video version? Export SRT or VTT and the caption timing comes with it, so each line appears when it is spoken.

A transcript on the episode

Captivate accepts an uploaded SRT file for an episode's transcript. Export SRT here, check the timing in the transcript view, and upload it there.

Blog posts from interviews

The DOCX export gives a writer an editable draft, and the summary and key quotes show who said what: a far better start than a blank page.

A back catalog you can search

Every transcript lands in your library. Search a guest or topic to find which episode covered it.

Pricing

What a Captivate back catalog costs to transcribe.

Packs from $4, credits never expire. After that, one-time packs: $4 for 300 minutes, $18 for 3,000 minutes or $32 for 6,000 minutes, and credits never expire.

120 episodes at an average of 45 minutes is 5,400 minutes. One $32 pack of 6,000 minutes covers it for $32, about 27 cents an episode, with 600 minutes left over for new releases. See every option on the pricing page.

FAQ

Captivate transcripts, answered.

Does Captivate make transcripts itself?

Captivate has its own transcript tools: its AI assistant can transcribe episodes, and you can upload an SRT file. Whipscribe is useful when you want TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON from one place, or several shows in one searchable library.

How do I transcribe a Captivate episode from its link?

Open the episode page, copy the address (yourshow.captivate.fm/episode/…) and paste it into the box at the top of this page. The preview is instant with no signup; a pack from $4 opens the full transcript.

Can I get SRT captions for a Captivate episode?

Yes. Every transcript exports as SRT and VTT as well as TXT, DOCX and JSON. The SRT file works in video editors for clips and as an upload to Captivate's own transcript field.

Can I transcribe someone else's Captivate podcast?

A public episode link works the same way. Transcribing for your own notes or research, or quoting a line with credit, is everyday practice; publishing a full transcript of a show you don't own is different, so ask the creator first. This is common sense, not legal advice.

What if the episode is longer than 3 hours?

Files up to 10 hours or 5 GB are supported. Every recording starts with a free preview of its opening minutes; for the rest, use credits from a pack.

What about an episode that isn't public yet?

Download the audio from Captivate and upload the file instead. Transcripts are kept in your own account's library.
