WhipScribe turns an episode link shared from Overcast into a timestamped transcript. Packs: $4 for 500 minutes, $12 for 2,000, $24 for 5,000; Workspace $19 a month. Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Measured turnaround: about 2 minutes per audio hour. 99 languages. Checked 25 Oct 2026.
How it works
An Overcast share link opens a public episode page, and Whipscribe finds the episode's audio from it.
In Overcast, open the episode, tap the share button and copy the episode link. It starts with overcast.fm/+ followed by a short code.
Whipscribe follows the link to the episode's audio. The transcript preview opens without an account.
Speakers are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and every word carries a timestamp. Export TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
| Link you paste | What gets transcribed |
|---|---|
overcast.fm/+AbCdEfGh1 | That episode |
overcast.fm/podcasts/episode_card/1234567890123456 | That episode |
A direct .mp3 link to the episode | That file |
| The show's RSS feed link | The newest episode |
If a link is refused, you see a message straight away and nothing is queued. Paste the episode's MP3 link or the show's RSS feed instead, or download the episode and drop the file in the box. The box takes files up to 500 MB; larger files continue on the upload page. Episodes from private or members-only feeds you added to Overcast have no public page, so a link cannot reach them; if the show lets you download the file, upload it instead.
What listeners and podcasters do with it
Listening is quick. Finding one sentence again an hour later is not.
Find the line you remember, check the wording and who said it, then jump to the timestamp and hear it again before you cite it.
Turn a long interview into notes you can skim. Search for a term, copy the paragraph and keep the timestamp as your reference.
Every transcript is kept in your library, so episodes from different shows sit side by side and one search covers all of them.
Podcasters who listen in Overcast can paste a link to their own public episode and get material for show notes, plus SRT or VTT captions for clips.
Overcast's own transcripts
Overcast added transcripts to its iPhone app in 2026. For the shows it covers, you can read along as an episode plays, tap a line to jump to it and search. If reading inside the app is all you need, that may be enough.
A Whipscribe transcript is something you keep and work with: a DOCX to edit, SRT or VTT captions, JSON for your own tools, in a library that also holds episodes you found somewhere else.
Most shows you find on Overcast belong to someone else. Transcribing a public episode for notes, study or research is common; before publishing the transcript or long quotes, ask the podcaster and credit the show. This is not legal advice.

What it costs
The $4 pack buys 500 minutes, so a 90-minute episode uses 90 of them, about $1.08. The same episode is 54 cents on the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes and about 43 cents on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.
Packs from $4, credits never expire. Full details on the pricing page.
FAQ
Yes, for many shows. Overcast added transcripts to its iPhone app in 2026, with read-along and search inside the app. Whipscribe is useful when you want the text as a DOCX, TXT, caption or JSON file with timestamps, or kept in one library with episodes from other apps.
Tap share on the episode in Overcast, copy the link that starts with overcast.fm/+ and paste it into the box on this page. A preview appears straight away with no signup; a pack from $4 opens the full transcript.
You see a message straight away and nothing is queued. Paste the episode's MP3 link or the show's RSS feed instead, or download the episode and upload the file.
Not from a link. Private, members-only and premium episodes have no public page to read. If the show lets you download the file, drop it in the upload box.
Transcribing a public episode for your own notes, study or research is a common use. Before publishing the transcript or long quotes from it, ask the podcaster and credit the show. This is not legal advice.
Your transcripts are kept in your account's searchable library, and your audio and transcripts are never used to train AI models. A link only reaches episodes that are already public.
Instant preview, no signup, no card. A free account keeps your transcripts in one library.
