Transcribe a long MOV from the camera roll or the edit.
MOV is Apple's video container, the format an iPhone records in and Final Cut often exports. At 1080p a long MOV runs about 1 to 2 GB per hour, so a recording up to 5 GB uploads here as one file, and only its audio is transcribed and counted against your minutes. Higher resolutions and ProRes are much larger, and for those the audio alone is the file to send.
The MOV question
Huge on the drive, ordinary in minutes.
What fits under 5 GB
A 1080p MOV of two to three hours is usually under the ceiling. 4K recordings from a phone and ProRes exports from an editor grow far faster, often passing 5 GB within the first hour, and these are the files to strip down to audio first.
Export the audio, keep the timing
On a Mac, QuickTime Player can export audio only, and Final Cut and most editors can share an audio-only file of the same length. The transcript's timestamps still line up with the original MOV, because the audio starts at the same instant as the picture. Big files go up more smoothly from the upload page.
Same price as the soundtrack
A 4 GB MOV and the small audio file you could export from it cost the same, because only the length of the audio is counted. Picture quality never changes the bill.
Ready for the edit
Chapters, key quotes with timestamps and a DOCX make a paper edit possible before you open the project again. The SRT and VTT files can be imported onto the timeline as captions.
Before / after
Getting words out of a long MOV, without a render queue.
✗ Render, compress, repeat
Video tools tend to treat a MOV as a picture problem, so the first step is always to make the picture smaller.
- A long render to a smaller H.264 file
- An upload refused at the first gigabyte
- A 4K clip cut into segments to fit
- Captions retimed after joining parts
- A transcript that ignores where the cut points were
- Paying per gigabyte of picture
✓ Send the MOV or its audio
Either way, the transcript lines up with the edit.
- One MOV up to 5 GB, picture and all
- An audio-only export for anything larger
- About 2 minutes per hour of footage
- Captions that sit on the original timeline
- People identified and named in the brief and quotes
- The first 20 minutes free on your first file
Sample output
Interview footage, read like a script.
Illustrative sample, not a real MOV. Times are measured from the first frame, so they match the clip in your editor.

FAQ
Long MOV questions.
How long does a two-hour MOV take to transcribe?
About four minutes after the upload, since processing runs at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. For a large MOV, exporting the audio first usually saves more time on the upload than anything else does.
What does a long MOV cost?
Its audio length in minutes. A 90-minute iPhone recording uses 90 minutes and a three-hour Final Cut export uses 180, and the $6 pack (500 minutes) covers either. Your first 20 minutes are free.
My iPhone video is 4K and over 5 GB. What should I do?
Export the audio only, using QuickTime Player on a Mac or your editor, and upload that file. It keeps the same timing as the video and is a small fraction of the size.
Will a MOV over 2 GB upload before I pay?
Files over 2 GB start once a pack is on your account. MOVs of 2 GB or less start straight away, and on a first recording you see the free 20 minutes before you choose a pack. Footage longer than 10 hours goes in as two files.
Which languages can be spoken in the MOV?
Any of 99 languages, recognised automatically from the soundtrack without a setting.
Which exports come with it, and is the footage private?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, with the caption files timed to the footage. Footage is transcribed on our own servers, and none of it is used for training.
