Question and answer sessions

Transcribe a Q&A session so the questions survive it.

The talk gets recorded and the Q&A after it is where the useful material actually is. Upload the recording, either the whole session or just the question period, and get text with word-level timestamps and the voices separated in the transcript view. Paste a public link or upload a file, whichever you have.

How it works

Keep recording after the talk ends.

The usual way to lose a Q&A is stopping the recording when the slides finish.

1

Record through to the end

Leave the recording running past the last slide. The questions arrive slowly at first, and the best one is usually the third or fourth.

2

Upload the recording

Drop the file into the box here, or paste the public YouTube link if the session was streamed and posted. The question period alone is a small file and comes back fast.

3

Pair question with answer

Read the exchange as turns, jump to any point by timestamp, and export MD or DOCX for the written answers you publish afterwards.

What comes out of it

Questions are content you did not have to write.

An audience tells you exactly what your material left unclear. That is worth keeping in writing.

The questions become written answers

Every question asked out loud is one somebody else will ask by email. Answer it in text once.

Your own answer, verbatim

Answers given on your feet are often better phrased than anything written later. The transcript keeps the version you actually said.

People who asked and had to leave

Send the text to whoever dropped off before their question was answered, with the timestamp attached.

What the audience cared about

Reading questions back across several sessions shows which part of the material keeps confusing people.

Audience audio

Why questions transcribe worse than answers.

The speaker has a microphone. The person asking usually does not, or has one for only part of the question.

Questions asked off microphone

A question called out from a seat may be faint or partly missing, and nothing recovers audio that was never captured.

Repeat it before you answer

Repeating the question into your own microphone puts a clean version into the recording, and the room hears it properly too.

Two questions in one

People often ask one question then add another. Both are transcribed but read as a single block, so split them when you publish.

What a download contains

The transcript view on the page separates the asker from the answerer. Downloaded TXT, DOCX, SRT and VTT files are the text alone; JSON is the one that keeps the speaker field.

FAQ

Q&A transcription, answered.

How do I transcribe a Q&A session?

Upload the recording of the session, or paste the public link if it was streamed and posted. You get the questions and answers as text with word-level timestamps.

Can I transcribe only the question period?

Yes. Trim the recording to the part you want and upload that. There is no minimum length, and a shorter file uses fewer minutes of credit.

Why are the questions harder to read than the answers?

The speaker has a microphone and the audience usually does not. A question asked away from a microphone can come out faint or incomplete in any recording.

Are the asker and the answerer separated?

In the transcript view on the page, yes. TXT, DOCX, SRT and VTT downloads hold the text without labels, and JSON is the export that carries speaker information.

Will the questions be listed out for me?

No. You get the session as text and pick out the questions yourself, which is quick to do once it is on a page rather than in a recording.

Can I paste the meeting link from our webinar tool?

Zoom links are refused. Export the recording from the tool and upload the file, or paste a public YouTube link if the session was posted there.

What does a half-hour of questions cost?

Thirty minutes is 24 cents on the $8 pack, 18 cents on the $12 pack or about 14 cents on the $24 pack.

Drop the session recording. Keep the questions.
