Crossfade
A crossfade overlaps the end of one audio region with the start of the next, fading one out while the other fades in, making edits inaudible.
Even a few milliseconds of crossfade removes the click a hard cut can make mid-waveform. Text-based editors apply micro-crossfades automatically at every word deletion — it is why modern 'edit by transcript' sounds seamless.
