High-pass filter
A high-pass filter removes frequencies below a chosen cutoff, letting highs pass — the near-universal first move on speech, cutting rumble, handling noise and plosive thumps below the voice.
Voices carry little content below ~80 Hz, so filtering there is free cleanup. Many microphones ship a built-in high-pass switch for exactly this reason.
