How big is a 2-hour Zoom recording? Usually well under 2 GB.
A 2-hour Zoom recording usually comes out as an MP4 of a few hundred megabytes to about 1 GB, depending on resolution, gallery view and screen sharing, while the audio-only M4A that Zoom can save alongside it is often under 100 MB. Either file uploads whole (the first-upload line is 2 GB, the file limit 10 hours or 5 GB), is transcribed in about 4 minutes, and the 120 minutes fit the $6 pack (500 minutes) after the first 20 minutes free.
Sizing a Zoom file
What decides how heavy two hours of Zoom gets.
What makes the MP4 grow
Video resolution, gallery view versus a single speaker, and how long a screen was shared all add size. A talking-head call stays small; two hours of a shared spreadsheet with many cameras on can approach a gigabyte. Check the file itself rather than guessing.
The lighter file to send
When Zoom saves an audio-only M4A next to the MP4, that is the one to upload: same voices, a fraction of the size. Local recordings land in the Zoom folder on the computer that recorded; cloud ones download from Recordings in the web portal.
Why the share link won't do
The link Zoom sends for a cloud recording opens a player page, not a media file, so download the recording and upload it here or from the upload page. If you moved it into Google Drive, its share link can be pasted instead.
Four minutes, then the brief
Two hours of audio is ready in about 4 minutes. The brief gives the thesis and takeaways, the chapters mark each agenda item, and participants are named in the summary and key quotes.
Before and after
A two-hour call you can actually use afterwards.
✗ A heavy file in a folder
The recording exists, but nobody wants to scrub two hours of video to find one decision.
- An MP4 left in the Zoom folder
- A cloud link that expires or gets lost
- Notes taken by whoever was free
- Action items remembered differently
- Captions only if a setting was on
- A gigabyte of video for a few lines
✓ Two hours as text
The file you already have becomes a transcript with an outline of the meeting.
- MP4 or M4A, whichever is smaller
- About four minutes to text
- Agenda items as chapters
- Participants named in the summary
- Numbers and dates said, listed
- DOCX for minutes, SRT for captions

FAQ
Two-hour Zoom files, answered.
Where do I find the Zoom recording file?
A local recording is saved to the Zoom folder on the computer that recorded, usually inside Documents, once the meeting ends and Zoom finishes converting it. A cloud recording is listed under Recordings in the Zoom web portal, where each file can be downloaded.
What does a 2-hour Zoom recording cost to transcribe?
Two hours is 120 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, and the $6 pack (500 minutes) covers the rest with room for about three more calls of that length. Packs are one-time, with no subscription.
My Zoom MP4 is over 2 GB. Can I still use it?
Yes. Before your first pack, uploads can be up to 2 GB; a bigger file starts once a pack is on the account, up to 5 GB. Uploading the M4A instead avoids the question entirely.
The meeting saved as several files. What do I do?
Zoom can produce separate files when recording was paused or stopped and started again. Upload each one; every file becomes its own transcript, and each starts its timestamps at zero.
Do I need to invite anything into the meeting?
No. Nothing joins your call; the work happens on the recording afterwards, so it works for meetings you hosted and ones you only received a file from.
Which languages and exports are supported, and is the recording private?
99 languages are detected automatically, including calls that switch language. You can download TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Meeting files are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
