Transcribe an Afrikaans community meeting for the minutes.
A 3-hour Afrikaans community meeting is transcribed in about 6 minutes and a 4-hour one in about 8, with the language detected for you. The first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes holds two 4-hour meetings with 20 minutes to spare.
For the secretary and the committee
Minutes written from what was said, not from what the secretary remembers.
Every agenda item in its place
Chapters follow the meeting from the opening to general matters, so the water, roads and security items can each be found by their time.
Decisions and numbers lifted out
The amounts, dates and names spoken in the meeting come back as a list, which is where minutes usually go wrong.
One phone on the table is enough
A phone recording from the middle of the hall works. Send the whole evening at once; a large video file goes through upload page.
Draft minutes the same night
The brief sets out the main resolutions, so the secretary starts the minutes from a summary instead of a blank page.
Why community minutes take weeks
Four hours of discussion, one volunteer, and a recording nobody wants to replay.
✗ Minutes from memory
The secretary takes notes while also speaking, and the recording sits on a phone until someone disputes what was agreed.
- Notes taken while chairing
- A 4-hour recording replayed in parts
- Who proposed what, forgotten
- Figures written down wrongly
- Recorder apps that split the evening
- English-only tools for an Afrikaans hall
✓ The recording, as text
The whole meeting comes back in minutes, searchable by any word that was said.
- Afrikaans recognised on its own
- A chapter for every agenda point raised
- Whoever proposed named in the summary
- Rand amounts and dates listed
- Chat to ask what was decided on an item
- Minutes drafted the same evening

FAQ
Afrikaans community meetings, answered.
How long until a 3-hour meeting is text?
Plan on 6 minutes or so, because the work runs at around 2 minutes per hour of sound. A 2-hour meeting takes about 4 and a long 4-hour evening about 8. The secretary can have a transcript open before the hall has been locked, which is when details are still fresh enough to correct.
What does a year of community meetings cost?
Twelve monthly meetings of 3 hours are 2,160 minutes, just above the 2,000 in the $12 pack, so the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes is the one to buy and it leaves room for special meetings. A single 3-hour meeting fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Pack prices are charged in US dollars. A committee that also holds an annual general meeting and one or two special meetings still has plenty of the 5,000 minutes left at year end, and unused credits roll on.
Some residents speak English in an Afrikaans meeting. Is that a problem?
The meeting is detected on its main language, here Afrikaans, and switches into English are handled. Afrikaans and English are both among the 99 languages recognised automatically. Where a speaker mixes in an English word for a contract, a by-law or a technical term, the word stays as spoken, which keeps the record faithful to the hall.
Can a 4-hour phone recording go up in one piece?
A single meeting file can be as long as 10 hours or as large as 5 GB. A phone audio recording of 4 hours is far below that. Before your first pack the upload limit is 2 GB, and a bigger video starts once a pack is on the account. Put the phone near the chair rather than at the back, away from the urn and the door. Speech from the front table and from the floor both come through better that way.
Does it name who spoke?
Speakers are identified and named in the summary, the key quotes and the chapters, so the minutes can say who raised a point. It works on the recording after the meeting; nothing joins the meeting itself. That is enough for the minutes to record that a resident raised the matter of the road, and for the chair to see which residents spoke most.
What files does the committee get, and who has access to the audio?
The committee gets TXT and DOCX for reading and editing, SRT and VTT if the meeting video is shared, and JSON for anyone building an archive. Meeting audio stays on our own servers, is never used for training, and can be deleted from your Library at any time. Many committees keep the audio until the minutes are confirmed at the next meeting, then delete it and keep the approved text.
