Transcribe council meeting recordings in Ireland and draft the minutes from the brief.
A county or city council meeting in Ireland often runs three to six hours, and a 4-hour recording comes back as text in about 8 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the 240 minutes of that meeting sit comfortably inside a $6 pack of 500 minutes, priced in US dollars.
From webcast to minutes
Every agenda item, motion and vote, found by searching rather than replaying.
Eight minutes for a long agenda
Council audio is processed at about 2 minutes for each hour. A plenary that sat from early afternoon into the evening, around four hours, is usually ready in eight minutes, which is less time than it takes to read the first agenda item aloud.
A brief to start the minutes
The brief lists the decisions taken, the motions put, and the figures quoted during the budget or housing items. Councillors and officials are named in the summary and chapters, so a draft of the minutes starts from a page rather than from a blank document.
A year of meetings on one pack
One 4-hour meeting is 240 minutes on the $6 pack. Twelve monthly meetings of that length come to 2,880 minutes, which is the $24 pack of 5,000, with room left for committee meetings and the annual budget sitting.
Chapters that follow the agenda
Chapters break the recording where the discussion moves on, which usually tracks the agenda: minutes of the last meeting, the chief executive's report, motions, questions. Each chapter carries a timestamp you can open in the recording.
Why council recordings go unread
A four-hour webcast is easy to publish and hard to use.
✗ The webcast on its own
Residents and staff who need one item have to find it in hours of video with no index.
- Hours of video for a single motion
- Minutes drafted from memory and notes
- A vote outcome checked by replaying
- Questions to officials hard to find later
- Free tools that stop well short of the meeting
- Nothing to search for a road or estate name
✓ A searchable meeting record
The full meeting comes back as text, a brief and timed chapters.
- A 4-hour plenary in about 8 minutes
- First 20 minutes free
- Motions and figures listed in the brief
- Speakers named in the summary
- Search for any place name said aloud
- DOCX ready for the minutes template

FAQ
Council meeting recordings, the common questions.
How long does a council meeting recording take?
Around 2 minutes per hour. A 4-hour meeting finishes in about 8 minutes, and a 6-hour budget meeting in about 12.
What does a 4-hour meeting cost?
240 minutes, inside the $6 pack of 500 minutes, which is $0.72 per audio hour. A year of monthly 4-hour meetings needs about 2,880 minutes, so the $24 pack of 5,000 is the better buy. Prices are in USD.
Can I paste the webcast link?
Links work for YouTube, Vimeo and Google Drive, among others. If the council publishes the meeting on YouTube, paste that link and nothing needs downloading. If the webcast player has no such link, download the video and upload the file.
The meeting video is several gigabytes. Is that a problem?
A council recording may run to 10 hours or 5 GB in one file. Before the first pack, files up to 2 GB start immediately, and a larger one starts once a pack is on the account.
Do I need to split a long meeting into parts?
No. A meeting up to 10 hours goes in as one file with one clock. Only a recording longer than that would need two files.
Which formats come back, and what happens to the recording?
DOCX suits the minutes template, and TXT, SRT, VTT and JSON come from the same run. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. You can delete the recording and its transcript at any time.
