Transcribe Japanese weekend school recordings classes and hogosha-kai, in Japanese.

Japanese weekend schools in the US run long Saturday sessions and parent meetings, and a 3-hour recording comes back as Japanese text in about 6 minutes, with Japanese detected automatically and the first 20 minutes free. A 3-hour block uses 180 minutes, so the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers two of them with 140 left.

For teachers, staff and parent volunteers

A Saturday of Japanese lessons and meetings, written down for the families who were not in the room.

Japanese in, Japanese out

The language is detected from the audio, so a kokugo lesson or a parent meeting comes back in Japanese without a setting. When a teacher switches to English to explain a word to a child raised in the US, the switch is handled and both stay in the text.

Parent meetings for absent parents

A hogosha-kai covers events, volunteer duties and dates that every family needs. The brief and the list of dates let a parent who missed the meeting catch up in five minutes, and the chapters show where each item was discussed.

Permission first

Weekend classes include children's voices. Record only what the school allows, tell families in advance, and keep children's names out of what you share; the summary names the speakers it hears, so check the text before it leaves the school.

How the file arrives

A phone or a small recorder at the back of the classroom produces an audio file that uploads in seconds. Video of a long session goes up from the upload page, up to 2 GB before the first pack and 5 GB after. If the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first; many phones save audio as M4A, which uploads directly.

Why these recordings are rarely used

The lesson was recorded for the family who missed it, and nobody had time to type it up.

✗ Recordings that stay on a phone

A teacher or a parent records the session so absent families can catch up. Then the file is too long to send, too long to listen to, and too tiring to summarise by hand after a full week of work. Families who work Saturdays or live far from the school miss the parent meetings most often, and they are the ones who need the details.

  • Three hours of Japanese audio to replay
  • Tools that assume English
  • Notes typed late on Saturday night
  • Dates for events missed by families
  • English explanations lost in the text
  • Hour-long limits on free apps

✓ A written record of the day

The class or meeting returns as Japanese text with chapters and a brief. A volunteer turns the meeting brief into the school newsletter, and a teacher keeps the lesson text for the next year's class. For teachers, a year of lesson transcripts becomes material to plan the next year from, with the explanations that worked written down.

  • About 6 minutes for a Saturday block
  • Japanese and English in one file
  • Each lesson or item as a chapter
  • Teachers named in the summary
  • Event dates and deadlines listed
  • DOCX for the newsletter

Sample

A weekend school lesson and parent meeting, as they come back.

This sample is illustrative and was written for this page; it is not taken from any school's recording, and the role names stand in for the names a summary would carry.

FAQ

Weekend school recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 3-hour Saturday recording take?

Close to 6 minutes, at about 2 minutes for each hour of audio. A 90-minute parent meeting is usually ready in about 3. Japanese takes no longer than English; the time depends only on the length of the recording.

What does a school year of recordings cost?

Thirty Saturdays with a 2-hour block recorded each week come to 3,600 minutes, which fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes with 1,400 left. A single parent meeting fits the $6 pack. All prices are in US dollars, and nothing renews.

Does it handle kanji and keigo?

Japanese is detected automatically and written in normal Japanese script, kanji and kana together. Polite meeting language and a teacher's classroom speech are transcribed as spoken; check names of local places, which the brief lists for you to confirm.

How large a file can we upload?

One file can run to 10 hours or 5 GB, and before your first pack the limit is 2 GB. An audio recording of a whole Saturday is far smaller than that. A file over 2 GB starts once a pack is on the account, which a class recording will rarely reach.

Should each class be a separate file?

If each class was recorded separately, yes; each gets its own chapters. A whole day recorded on one device can go in as a single file and the chapters will split it by lesson.

What do we download, and is the recording private?

DOCX and TXT for the newsletter, SRT and VTT for captions, JSON for a school site. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and a class recording with children's voices can be deleted as soon as the text is saved.
