Transcribe a long DivX AVI file old lecture and event videos, as text.
A long DivX AVI is transcribed at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 2-hour file comes back in roughly 4 minutes and uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack of 500. DivX is compressed, often 350 MB to 1.5 GB an hour, so many files are under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack; the first 20 minutes are free.
DivX, worked out
A compact video format from the early internet, still full of lectures and talks.
Where DivX files come from
DivX and Xvid were the common way to compress video into AVI files in the 2000s: recorded lectures, conference talks, TV recordings and home videos sized to fit a CD or two. Course archives and old hard drives are full of them.
Size per hour
Encodings sized for a 700 MB CD hold 90 minutes to 2 hours, about 350 to 470 MB an hour; higher-quality ones run near 1.5 GB an hour. A 3-hour file is usually well under 5 GB.
As is, or converted
Try the file as it is: up to 500 MB here, larger on the upload page. Upload support for AVI is not guaranteed, so if the upload refuses it, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC. The audio track is often already MP3, so copying it out is quick.
What comes back
A brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the names and figures spoken, the questions the video answers, and SRT or VTT subtitles timed to the original file.
Before and after
The video plays. Finding one remark in two hours of it is another matter.

FAQ
DivX AVI questions.
How long does a 2-hour DivX file take?
Around 4 minutes after the upload completes, since processing runs at about 2 minutes per audio hour. A 3-hour lecture takes about 6, and the upload of a 1 GB file is usually the slower step.
What does a lecture series cost?
One 2-hour file is 120 minutes of the $6 pack of 500. Thirty 90-minute lectures is 2,700 minutes, on the $24 pack of 5,000. Credits never expire.
Will the upload take an AVI?
Not guaranteed. Try it; if the upload refuses it, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC. Copying the audio track out without re-encoding is often enough.
The video is in two parts, CD1 and CD2. What do I do?
Join them into one file, or upload them one after the other. One file keeps a single timeline for chapters and subtitles.
Is there a size limit?
Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before your first pack, uploads go up to 2 GB, which covers most DivX files as they are.
Which exports come back, and is the video kept private?
Choose TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON; the SRT is timed to the AVI so it can sit beside it as a subtitle file. Videos are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
