Transcribe a long WMV file from the old training library.
A long WMV transcribes as one upload: an 8-hour training day comes back in about 16 minutes and uses 480 of the 500 minutes in a $6 pack. One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, only the speech counts, and the first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor.
Windows Media Video, archived for years
The training day on the shared drive, finally searchable.
Where WMV files live
Windows Movie Maker exported WMV by default, and many webinar systems, screen recorders and corporate video libraries of the 2000s and 2010s stored their recordings the same way. Those archives are full of all-day trainings and recorded seminars.
How big an hour is
A WMV made for the web is often a few hundred megabytes per hour, and a high-quality export can approach a gigabyte. An eight-hour day can therefore land anywhere from about 2 to 8 GB, so check the file size before choosing how to send it.
Above 2 GB or 5 GB
A WMV over 2 GB starts once a pack is on the account. Over 5 GB, export the audio to MP3 first, which turns a full day into a few hundred megabytes. If the upload refuses the file at any size, convert it to MP3 first as well.
A full day, in chapters
Eight hours of a recorded training comes back as one document with chapters for each module, timestamps, the names, numbers and dates the trainer gave, and a chat that answers questions across the whole day.
Before / after
Old WMV archives are long, heavy and hard to search.
✗ An archive of unwatched days
Long WMV recordings sit untouched because getting text out of them is slow.

- Notes typed with no link back to the video
✓ One day, one document
Upload the WMV, or its audio, and read the whole day back.

FAQ
Long WMV questions.
How long does an 8-hour WMV take to transcribe?
About 16 minutes after upload, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A several-gigabyte WMV may spend longer uploading than processing.
What does eight hours of WMV cost?
Eight hours is 480 minutes, which fits in the $6 pack (500 minutes) with 20 left. A full 10-hour WMV is 600 minutes and needs the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. Credits never expire.
My WMV is over 5 GB or runs past 10 hours.
Export the audio to MP3 to get under 5 GB. For anything longer than 10 hours, cut the audio into two files at a break, such as lunch, and upload both.
Do I need to convert the WMV first?
Try the WMV as it is. If the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first; the speech is identical and only the picture is dropped.
What languages work?
99 languages are detected automatically. A training delivered in Portuguese or Japanese needs no setting.
What can I download, and is my company video kept private?
Downloads come as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Videos are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training, and a team that records every week can use the $19/month Workspace instead of packs.
