Transcribe long Zoom and Teams meetings recorded in South Africa.
A two or three hour Zoom or Teams meeting from South Africa transcribes in about 4 to 6 minutes once you upload the recording file. The first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes finishes the meeting and leaves time on the account for the next one.
Long meetings, handled after the fact
The call is over. The recording is the part that lasts.
Nothing joins the call
WhipScribe never enters the meeting. You record in Zoom or Teams as you normally would, then upload the file, so nobody on the call sees an extra participant or a consent pop-up from us.
Getting the file out
Zoom saves an MP4 locally or in the cloud, and both can be downloaded and dropped here. A Teams recording lands in OneDrive or SharePoint, so download it first and then upload it, since Teams links are not fetched directly.
Three hours, worked out
A three-hour meeting is 180 minutes. On the $6 pack of 500 minutes that leaves 320 minutes, which covers the next two meetings of the same length with change.
The minutes, mostly drafted
The brief lists what was decided, who took which task and the dates mentioned. Chapters follow the agenda as it was actually discussed, which makes the minutes a matter of editing rather than typing.
Why long meetings fall through
Three hours is long enough that nobody rewatches it.
✗ Taking notes by hand
Somebody is usually asked to take minutes and misses half of it while speaking themselves.
- Note-takers who also have to contribute
- Meeting assistants that need admin approval to join
- Built-in captions that vanish when the call ends
- Load-shedding cutting a laptop mid-meeting
- Action items buried two hours into the video
- Rewatching at double speed to find one figure
✓ The recording, made readable
The file is the record, and the transcript makes it readable in the time it takes to make tea.
- Upload once the call ends
- A searchable text of the whole meeting
- Tasks and owners collected in the brief
- Chapters that follow the agenda as discussed
- Questions answered by chat over the transcript
- A DOCX ready to edit into minutes

FAQ
Long South African meetings, the usual questions.
How long until a three-hour meeting is transcribed?
About 6 minutes, since processing runs near 2 minutes per hour of audio. You can close the tab, and the transcript waits in your Library when you come back.
What does a two or three hour meeting cost?
Three hours is 180 minutes and fits on the $6 pack of 500 minutes, roughly $0.72 per hour. A team with a weekly long meeting uses about 720 minutes a month and is better served by the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. All amounts are in US dollars, and unused minutes stay on the account.
Will a Zoom or Teams file upload?
A three-hour meeting recording is usually well under 2 GB, which is what uploads before the first pack. After a pack the ceiling is 10 hours or 5 GB for one file, so even a full-day workshop goes up without splitting.
Do you join the meeting or record it?
No. There is no bot and nothing live. You record in Zoom or Teams, download the file, and upload it here afterwards.
Which languages are understood?
English, Afrikaans and Zulu are detected automatically, among 99 languages. When people switch languages during the meeting, the transcript is made on the meeting's main language, so check any remarks made in the other one.
Which exports suit minutes, and does the recording stay private?
TXT and DOCX for minutes, SRT and VTT if the recording is shared with captions, and JSON for your own tools. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete the meeting and its transcript whenever you choose.
