Transcribe a long OGA file audio-only Ogg, hours long.
A long OGA file is usually Opus or Vorbis audio at roughly 10 to 60 MB an hour, so a 7-hour recording stays well under every size line and transcribes in about 14 minutes. The opening minutes are a free preview, and 7 hours, 420 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes.
OGA, explained
The .oga extension simply says: this Ogg file holds sound and no picture.
Where .oga comes from
The Ogg container's makers suggest .oga for audio-only files, so some Linux recording apps, browser-based recorders and messaging apps that save voice messages use it. Inside is usually Opus, which is built for voice, or the older Vorbis; now and then FLAC. It is the same container as a .ogg file, just named more precisely.
Megabytes per hour
Opus at 24 to 32 kbps, a common voice setting, is about 11 to 14 MB an hour. Vorbis at 96 to 128 kbps is about 43 to 58 MB. FLAC inside Ogg is far heavier, often 300 to 450 MB an hour for stereo, and is the one case where ten hours can reach 3 to 4.5 GB, close to the 5 GB a file can be.
Uploading, or converting first
Most OGA files go in as they are: drop the file in the box, or use upload page when it is over 500 MB. Some file pickers do not list .oga as audio. If the upload refuses it, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC; with ffmpeg, a command such as ffmpeg -i talk.oga -c:a libmp3lame -q:a 5 talk.mp3 does it.
Hours of talk, structured
A long recording comes back with a brief of its main points, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates said, the questions it answers, and a chat over the text. Each person speaking is identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
Why OGA files stall
The audio is fine. The extension is the part that confuses software.
✗ A file nothing will open
An .oga file from a recorder or a chat app meets tools that expect MP3.
- Pickers that hide the .oga extension
- Players that open it as an unknown file
- Free tiers that stop after 30 minutes
- Cutting a long file to fit a time limit
- Re-encoding that wastes an evening
- No overview of the whole recording
✓ A file that becomes text
The OGA goes in whole, or after one conversion, and comes back as one transcript.
- 10 hours per file
- About 2 minutes per audio hour
- a free preview of the opening minutes to start
- $4 for 300 minutes, no expiry
- Chapters with timestamps
- Five export formats

FAQ
Long OGA files, the common questions.
How long does a long OGA take to transcribe?
About 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 3-hour OGA is ready in around 6 minutes and a 7-hour one in about 14. Because Opus and Vorbis files are small, the upload is quick too.
What does a long OGA cost?
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. Thirty hours of OGA recordings, 1,800 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000. Packs are one-time and the minutes never expire, and the opening minutes on a first visit are free.
Is OGA different from OGG?
It is the same Ogg container. The .oga name marks a file that holds only audio. Renaming it changes nothing inside, though some file pickers recognise .ogg more readily than .oga.
How do I know what codec is inside?
VLC shows it under the media or codec information window, and ffprobe prints it in one line. Opus and Vorbis are small; FLAC is the heavy one worth converting to MP3 before a long upload.
My OGA runs longer than 10 hours.
Split it into two files and upload each. ffmpeg can cut at a set time without re-encoding, and each part comes back with its own timestamps starting from zero.
Which languages, and is the file kept private?
99 languages are detected automatically, and English words inside another language are handled. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
