Transcribe long recordings from Audio Hijack whatever the Mac was playing.
To transcribe an Audio Hijack recording, upload the audio file its Recorder block saved, up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and a 3-hour capture comes back as text in about 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free on your first visit, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers that 180-minute capture with 320 minutes to spare.
From the Mac capture to the text
Audio Hijack already wrote a normal audio file, so it uploads exactly as it is.
Where the capture lands
Audio Hijack saves each session through the Recorder block in your session, and that block holds both the file format and the save location. Open it to see which folder the capture went to and whether it is an MP3, an AAC file or uncompressed audio, then drag the file onto upload page. WhipScribe has no block, plug-in or integration inside Audio Hijack; it only reads the finished recording.
Size by format, with the arithmetic
An MP3 at 128 kbps is 128,000 bits each second, which works out to 57.6 MB an hour, so three hours is about 173 MB. A 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV or AIFF runs near 635 MB an hour, which puts a 3-hour capture around 1.9 GB, still under the 2 GB that uploads before any pack is on the account.
What a week of calls costs
Five 2-hour calls captured over one week add up to 600 minutes, more than the $6 pack holds. The $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers them at $0.36 an audio hour and keeps 1,400 minutes for the weeks that follow. A single 3-hour capture sits well inside the $6 pack.
What you read afterwards
Each capture returns with a brief of its thesis and takeaways, chapters stamped with times, and the names, numbers and dates that came up. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and a chat over the transcript answers follow-up questions about the session.
Long captures elsewhere
A clean Audio Hijack session is often too long or too large for the tool it is sent to.
✗ The usual stall
A good capture that never becomes text.
- The Whisper API refusing anything over 25 MB
- Re-encoding a WAV just to squeeze under a cap
- Cutting a 3-hour stream into thirds
- Matching three sets of timestamps by hand
- Captures piling up unread on the Mac
- Scrubbing back at double speed for one quote
✓ After one upload
The capture comes back whole, on one clock.
- The Recorder block's file, unconverted
- Three hours of audio read in about 6 minutes
- Chapters that follow the call's topics
- Each voice named in the brief and quotes
- 180 minutes taken from a $6 pack
- Five exports from a single run

Illustrative only: we wrote these lines for this page, and they come from no real call. The timestamps place them in a 3-hour capture.

FAQ
Audio Hijack recordings, answered.
How long does a 3-hour Audio Hijack file take?
Around 6 minutes, since processing runs at about 2 minutes per audio hour. The public proof page lists a 2.48-hour file finished in 200 seconds and a 9.31-hour file in 1,033 seconds.
What does a 3-hour capture cost, and on which pack?
On a first visit the first 20 minutes of the capture cost nothing. A 3-hour capture is 180 minutes, so it belongs on the $6 pack of 500 minutes, which is $0.72 an audio hour and leaves 320 minutes on the account. Credits never expire and no subscription is required.
My capture is a WAV over 2 GB, or longer than 10 hours. What then?
Files up to 2 GB upload before a pack, and anything larger starts once a pack is on the account, up to 5 GB. A session running past 10 hours goes up as two files. Switching the Recorder block to MP3 for the next session keeps even an all-day capture small.
Can I paste a link to the stream instead of uploading the capture?
Yes, when the same stream or call also sits on YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick, Google Drive or a podcast feed; paste that link and nothing needs uploading. A capture that exists only on your Mac is uploaded from the folder the Recorder block names.
Which languages can the capture be in?
Any of 99 languages, detected automatically with nothing to set. A call that switches between two languages is detected on its main one, and the switches are handled.
Which exports come back, and what happens to the audio?
Plain TXT, an editable DOCX, SRT and VTT captions, and JSON all come out of the one run. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and that includes anything Audio Hijack captured.
