Transcribe long interview sequences from Avid Media Composer export the audio, build the paper edit.
Export each long interview sequence from Avid Media Composer as an audio file, such as a WAV, and upload it here; a 90-minute interview is transcribed in about 3 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.
Sequence to transcript
The interviews are the backbone of the film, and the paper edit starts with reading every one of them.
Export audio only
Load the interview sequence, mark it from start to end, and use the export settings to write an audio-only file, such as a WAV; the menu names and presets differ between versions, so check yours. Mixing the interview tracks down to mono keeps the file small and changes nothing for the transcript.
How big a WAV gets
A 16-bit, 48 kHz mono WAV is about 346 MB an hour, so a 90-minute interview is around 518 MB. That is just past the 500 MB this page's box takes, so it goes on the upload page. In stereo it doubles to about 1 GB, still well under the 5 GB one file can be.
A whole shoot day in one file
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. At about 346 MB an hour in mono that file is near 3.1 GB, which starts once a pack is on the account.
Material for the edit
Chapters mark where each topic starts, the key quotes give you candidate soundbites with their times, and the names, places and dates said are listed for fact-checking. Speakers are named in the summary and the key quotes, so the interviewer and the subject are easy to tell apart when you read.

FAQ
Media Composer interviews, answered.
How long does a 90-minute interview take?
About 3 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes for each hour of audio. A 9-hour shoot day exported as one file takes about 18 minutes.
What does a documentary's worth of interviews cost?
On a first visit the opening minutes are a free preview; a longer interview is previewed, and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview ended. Twenty 90-minute interviews are 1,800 minutes on the $18 pack. A bigger project goes on the $32 pack of 6,000 minutes.
Do the timestamps match my source timecode?
No. They count from the start of the exported file, so export each sequence from its first frame and read a time in the transcript as an offset from the sequence start.
Is there a Media Composer plugin or bin integration?
No. WhipScribe has no integration with Avid Media Composer and nothing runs inside it. You export audio and upload it, and the transcript stays outside the project.
Can the interviews be in another language?
Yes, any of 99 languages is detected automatically. An interview that changes language partway is transcribed on its main language.
Which formats come back, and are the rushes private?
Each interview downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. The interviews are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
