Canon EOS R5 · clips or joined audio · 10 h per file

Transcribe a long Canon EOS R5 recording even when the camera split it into clips.

A 3-hour interview shot on a Canon EOS R5 comes back as text in about 6 minutes, whether you upload the MP4 clips one by one or join their audio into one file of up to 10 hours or 5 GB. A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free, and the 180 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 320 left.

Many clips, one conversation

A high-resolution body may record a long session in pieces; the transcript can put them back together.

Limits differ by mode

How long one R5 clip can run depends on the movie mode, the resolution, the card and the camera's temperature, and firmware updates have changed the rules over time. Treat your manual as the authority. In practice, a long interview often comes off the card as several files rather than one.

RAW, MP4 and what to send

RAW movie modes write very large CRM files, while standard modes write MP4, usually in the DCIM folder. Neither needs to be uploaded as shot: an audio export of the session carries every word at a sliver of the size.

Join, or keep separate

Upload each clip and you get one transcript per clip with its own clock. Place the clips in order on a timeline, export the audio as one MP3 or WAV, and the whole 3-hour session returns as a single document with continuous timestamps.

What the session gives you

Expect a brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the questions the conversation answers and the names, numbers and dates spoken. Interviewer and guests are named in the summary, quotes and chapters, and you can ask the chat which guest raised a point first.

High-resolution shoots elsewhere

An 8K-capable camera can make a 3-hour interview the hardest file on the drive.

✗ What usually happens

Big files, broken into pieces.

  • Clips too large for upload forms
  • RAW footage nobody wants to move twice
  • A session spread over many files
  • Separate transcripts with clocks at zero
  • Copying text between documents
  • Quotes found only by scrubbing 8K files

✓ Here

The session, reassembled as text.

  • Clips or one file, up to 5 GB each
  • About 6 minutes for 3 hours of speech
  • Continuous timestamps once audio is joined
  • Each guest named in quotes and chapters
  • Five export formats from one run
  • A free 20-minute look first

A long panel recorded on a mirrorless body, returned as text.

These lines are illustrative and were written for this page, not recorded at a real panel. Timestamps assume the clips were joined into one audio file.

00:49:03 The cost came down, but the training time went up, and nobody budgeted for that.
01:52:38 Let me push back on that a little, because our numbers looked different.
02:57:12 We'll close there. The recording and notes will be shared next week.

FAQ

Canon EOS R5 recordings, the usual questions.

How long does a 3-hour R5 interview take?

Around 6 minutes as one joined file. Split into clips, each is ready in a minute or two, depending on its length.

What does a 3-hour R5 interview cost?

180 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes, leaving 320 for the next shoots, after 20 free minutes on a first visit. Eleven such interviews, 1,980 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000.

Will the R5 split my recording?

It may, depending on the mode, resolution, card and temperature; check the manual for your firmware. If it did, upload the clips or join their audio first.

What about a RAW clip?

A RAW clip is usually far over the 5 GB allowed per file. Export the audio from your editor and upload that instead; the words are the same.

Which languages work?

99 languages, recognised from the audio automatically. A guest who switches language is transcribed on the recording's main language.

What does an R5 session download as, and is it private?

The session downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Each recording is transcribed on our own servers and never used to train anything.
