Transcribe a long Canon EOS R6 recording when one interview is several files.
A 2.5-hour interview session shot on a Canon EOS R6 comes back as text in about 5 minutes, whether you upload each MP4 clip or join their audio into one file of up to 10 hours or 5 GB. The first 20 minutes are free, and the 150 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
From the R6 to the text
A long interview on a stills-first camera usually becomes a stack of clips. That is fine.
The MVI files on the card
The R6 saves movies to the card inside the DCIM folder, usually as MP4 files whose names start with MVI. Copy them in order with a card reader; the file numbers tell you which clip came first.
Why one talk is many files
Depending on the model, its firmware and the movie settings, a long take may stop or roll over into a new file partway through. Check your camera's manual for the exact rule. Either way, the session reaches you as a sequence of clips rather than one.
Clips or one audio file
Upload each clip and you get one transcript per clip, each timed from its own start. For a single document, line the clips up in your editor, export only the audio as MP3 or WAV, and upload that one file. A separate audio recorder running all session is cleaner still.
What the session becomes
The text comes back with a brief of the main points, chapters with timestamps, key quotes and the names, numbers and dates mentioned. Interviewer and guest are named in the summary, quotes and chapters, so pulling selects takes minutes.
Interview clips elsewhere
A session in pieces turns transcription into a filing job.
✗ The usual chores
Each clip is another upload and another chance to lose the thread.
- The OpenAI Whisper API caps files at 25 MB
- Free minutes used up by the second clip
- Clips transcribed out of order
- Timestamps that restart in every file
- Quotes hunted down by rewatching
- MP4 masters too large to send
✓ One session, one read
Clips as they are, or one joined audio file.
- MP4 clips accepted from the card
- Read in about 5 minutes
- One timeline when the audio is joined
- Guest and interviewer named in the quotes
- First 20 minutes of the session free
- The whole session on the $6 pack

FAQ
Canon EOS R6 recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 2.5-hour R6 session take?
About 5 minutes, at around 2 minutes of processing per hour of audio. If you upload five 30-minute clips instead, each is ready in about a minute.
What does an interview series cost?
One 150-minute session fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes, after the first 20 minutes free on a first visit. Twelve sessions of that length are 1,800 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000.
How large can each clip be?
Up to 5 GB or 10 hours, and up to 2 GB before a pack is on the account. An audio export of a whole session is usually a few hundred megabytes at most.
Do I have to join the clips?
No. Separate clips give separate transcripts. Join their audio only if you want one document and one clock for the session.
What if the guest speaks another language?
Yes. 99 languages are detected from the audio automatically, and a guest who switches language is transcribed on the main language of the recording.
Which downloads are there, and is it private?
One run gives five files: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Every recording is transcribed on our own servers and never used for training, and it can be deleted along with its transcript.
