Transcribe long recordings from a Canon VIXIA school nights and lessons, word for word.
Many Canon VIXIA camcorders record MP4 or AVCHD, and a 2.5-hour awards night or a long lesson from one is text in about 5 minutes after upload. That evening is 150 minutes, so the first 20 are free and the $6 pack of 500 minutes takes the remaining 130, leaving 370.

Which file to take
Check which format the camcorder was set to; many VIXIA models offer MP4 and AVCHD. MP4 clips upload as they are. AVCHD recordings arrive as .MTS files, and if the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first.
Lessons for a whole year
A teacher recording thirty-six 50-minute lessons has 1,800 minutes of class. The $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers the year with 200 left, at $0.36 an audio hour. One lesson fits easily inside the first 20 minutes free plus a $6 pack.
Keeping the file small
A camcorder clip at 17 Mbps builds up about 7.65 GB an hour (17 divided by 8, times 3,600), past the 5 GB limit for a long evening. The soundtrack as MP3 at 128 kbps is about 58 MB an hour, small enough to send from a school laptop.
What families and students get
A brief of the evening or lesson, chapters with timestamps, key quotes, and the names, awards and dates read aloud. Songs and band pieces are not transcribed; the speeches, announcements and teaching are.
School video elsewhere
The recording exists, but nobody has time to type it up.

FAQ
Canon VIXIA recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 2.5-hour VIXIA recording take?
Around 5 minutes; every hour of audio needs about 2. Similar in length, the 2.48-hour file on the proof page took 200 seconds.
What does one evening, or a year of lessons, cost?
The opening 20 minutes are free when you first arrive. A 150-minute evening fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Thirty-six 50-minute lessons, 1,800 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
How large a file can I send?
Up to 2 GB before your first pack, then up to 5 GB, with 10 hours the limit for any single file. Audio converted from the camcorder clip stays far under both.
The camcorder split the evening into several files. Must they be joined first?
Not necessarily. Upload each file on its own, or join them while converting to MP3 if you want one document with continuous timestamps.
Can a lesson in another language be transcribed?
Yes. 99 languages are recognised automatically, Spanish, Korean and Tagalog among them, and a lesson that switches language is detected on its main language.
What formats do I get, and is a class recording safe?
DOCX for a newsletter, SRT or VTT for captions, plus TXT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, so a class recording does not end up feeding a model, and you can delete it at any time.
