MOV or MP4 · very large files · about 2 min per hour

Transcribe a long Panasonic Lumix GH6 recording a whole day of talks in one take.

A 6-hour conference day recorded on a Panasonic Lumix GH6 comes back as text in about 12 minutes once you upload its audio, because the video file of a take that long is many times the 5 GB limit. The first 20 minutes are free, and the 360 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.

From the GH6 to the text

The GH6 was designed to keep recording through a long session. The file grows with it.

Long takes, huge files

Panasonic built the GH6 to record without a clip time limit, so the card and the battery decide when a take ends. That suits a conference room, but at 200 Mbps an hour of video is about 90 GB, and a six-hour day passes half a terabyte.

Where the take is

The GH6 records MOV or MP4, depending on the file format you chose, to a CFexpress or SD card, usually inside the DCIM folder. ProRes recording, where you used it, is MOV and even larger. Copy the take to a computer before doing anything else.

Upload the audio

Export the sound of the take as MP3 or WAV. A 6-hour MP3 at 128 kbps is about 346 MB, comfortably under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack. If the event is already on YouTube or Vimeo, paste that link instead.

A conference day as text

Every speaker's session returns inside chapters with timestamps, with a brief of the day's argument and the names, numbers and dates said. The chat answers questions such as which panel discussed funding, pointing to the minute.

Long-take video elsewhere

A camera that never stops recording makes files nothing else can take.

✗ What breaks

Length and size, both far past the usual limits.

  • Whisper API uploads stopped at 25 MB
  • Files of hundreds of gigabytes
  • Free tiers that end at the first coffee break
  • Sessions cut out by hand before upload
  • Speakers searched for by scrubbing
  • A day of talks left unread

✓ From the audio

One file for the whole day, read in minutes.

  • A 6-hour MP3 near 346 MB
  • The whole day in about 12 minutes
  • A chapter per talk or panel
  • Every speaker named in the day's summary
  • A first 20 minutes with no charge
  • The full day on the $6 pack

This sample is illustrative and was made up for this page, not taken from any real conference. Roles stand in for names, and the timestamps show a 6-hour day.

FAQ

Panasonic Lumix GH6 recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 6-hour GH6 recording take?

Around 12 minutes: each hour of audio takes about 2. The public proof page shows a 9.31-hour file finished in 1,033 seconds.

What do two GH6 conference days cost?

Two 6-hour days are 720 minutes, more than the $6 pack holds, so the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes is the one to buy, with 1,280 left. One day alone, 360 minutes, fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Your first visit carries 20 free minutes.

My take is hundreds of gigabytes. What now?

Each file must be 5 GB or less, and 2 GB or less before a pack. Export the audio as MP3 or WAV, which for a full day is a few hundred megabytes as MP3.

When do I need to split?

Only past 10 hours in a single file. A take longer than that goes up as two audio files, each transcribed in full.

Which languages work?

99, detected automatically. A conference with sessions in two languages is detected on the main language of each file, so separate files per language read best.

What exports come back, and where is it processed?

There are five exports, TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Conference audio is transcribed on our own servers and never used for training; deleting a file deletes its transcript.
