Transcribe long Philips SpeechMike dictation without waiting for a typist.
The SpeechMike is a USB dictation microphone, so the file you upload is whatever your software saved: WAV and MP3 go straight in, and DS2 or DSS dictation should be converted to one of those first. An hour of dictation comes back in about 2 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and 30 hours a month fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
The microphone records nothing by itself
A SpeechMike sends sound to the computer. The file is made by the program you dictate into.
Know which file you have
Dictation software built around the SpeechMike usually saves DS2 or DSS, compressed formats made for dictation workflows. Convert the file to WAV or MP3 in that software, if it offers the option, then upload it on upload page. A recording made in Audacity or a voice app is already WAV or MP3.
Long sessions are fine
An hour of mono WAV at 16 kHz is about 115 MB, and an hour of MP3 is smaller still. A morning of dictation in one file is well inside the 2 GB that uploads before a pack and the 10-hour limit per file.
Spoken punctuation, kept readable
Dictation tends to arrive in long continuous stretches. It comes back as plain text with timestamps on every line, and the names, numbers and dates you spoke are listed separately so a typo in a figure is easy to catch.
A month of letters and reports
Thirty hours of dictation in a month is 1,800 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, or $0.36 an audio hour. The minutes do not expire, so a quiet month leaves the balance for the next.
Where dictation sits today
Dictation is fast to speak and slow to come back as text.
✗ The queue behind the microphone
Dictation often waits for a typist or a desktop speech program that needs training.
- Files waiting days in a typing queue
- Software that must learn your voice first
- A DS2 file no general tool opens
- Long sessions cut into short clips
- Numbers misheard and not flagged
- Per-seat licences for occasional use
✓ Convert once, upload, edit
Text comes back in minutes and the audio is a click away.
- WAV or MP3 from any recording app
- About 2 minutes per audio hour
- Names, numbers and dates listed
- Timestamps on every line
- Minutes that never expire
- DOCX, TXT and three more formats

FAQ
SpeechMike dictation, the common questions.
How long does an hour of SpeechMike dictation take?
About 2 minutes after upload. A short letter is ready in seconds, and a three-hour session of reports takes about six minutes.
Can I upload a DS2 or DSS file directly?
Convert it to WAV or MP3 first. Those are the dependable formats here, and most dictation programs and audio editors can save a copy in one of them. Once converted, the length and quality are unchanged.
What does a month of dictation cost?
Thirty hours is 1,800 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000. A lighter month of seven hours, 420 minutes, fits the $6 pack of 500. The first 20 minutes of your first recording are free.
How long can one dictation file be?
Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and up to 2 GB before your first pack. Dictation files are small, so length is the only limit you are likely to meet.
Can I dictate in a language other than English?
Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, including Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Swedish, and you do not set the language before you start.
What do I get back, and is the dictation private?
Exports cover TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON for every dictation. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete a file and its transcript whenever you choose.
