Transcribe long video podcasts from a RØDECaster Video the sound or the link, not the 20 GB file.
A RØDECaster Video records a long show to an external SSD, usually as an MP4 far larger than 5 GB, so send the audio or a link to the published episode and a 3-hour show comes back as text in about 6 minutes. A first visit gets 20 minutes free, and the show's 180 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 320 left.
Video is heavy, speech is light
Every gigabyte of a video podcast is picture. The transcript reads only the voices.
Where the show is written
The console records to the drive you connect, usually an SSD, with the video as an MP4 and, depending on settings, separate audio files alongside it. Plug the drive into a computer and look in the folder for that session; check the recording settings to see what was written.
Why the MP4 is too big
Video size is bitrate times length. At 10 to 20 Mbps, one hour of 1080p is roughly 4.5 to 9 GB, so three hours runs from about 13.5 to 27 GB, several times the 5 GB a file may be. Audio of the same show as a 128 kbps MP3 is about 173 MB.
Three routes that work
Upload a separate audio file if the console wrote one. Or export the audio track from the MP4 in an editor, then upload that. Or, once the episode is on YouTube or Vimeo, paste its link here: links need no upload from your computer at all.
Captions and a written episode
One run returns SRT and VTT captions timed to the show, a brief with takeaways, chapters for the video description, and the names, numbers and dates said. Hosts and guests are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, ready for the clip list.
Video podcasts elsewhere
Long video shows run into size walls long before anyone reads them.
✗ What typically breaks
A great-looking show, with no text behind it.

- A 25 MB cap on Whisper's API
- Video split into short pieces to fit
- Captions typed against the timeline
- Chapters guessed from memory
- Clips found by scrubbing
✓ Audio or a link
A three-hour show readable in minutes.
- Audio files of a few hundred MB
- YouTube and Vimeo links fetched
- About 6 minutes for 3 hours
- SRT matching the video
- Chapters for the description
- Quotes with timestamps for clips

FAQ
RØDECaster Video recordings, the common questions.
How fast does a 3-hour video podcast come back?
About 6 minutes, whether you send the audio or a link. Picture resolution changes nothing, because only the speech is processed.
What does a 3-hour show cost?
On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free, and a longer show is previewed. The 180 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes, leaving 320. Ten weekly shows of that length, 1,800 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
Can I upload the MP4 as it is?
Only if it is 5 GB or less, or 2 GB or less before your first pack. A long 1080p show usually is not. Export the audio track, or paste the link once the episode is published.
Does a YouTube link work if the episode streamed live?
Yes. YouTube live replays are accepted as links, as are Twitch and Kick VODs; a stream replay over 6 hours starts once a pack is on the account.
Will the captions line up with my edit?
They line up with the file or link you sent. If you cut the episode afterwards, transcribe the final cut instead so the SRT and VTT match it.
Is there a plugin for the console, and is the show private?
No plugin exists; WhipScribe has no integration with RØDE gear. Your show is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training. Captions and text download as SRT, VTT, TXT, DOCX and JSON.
