Two-mic console · stereo mix · 2 h in about 4 min

Transcribe long podcast episodes from a RØDECaster Duo the mix, straight from the recording.

A RØDECaster Duo records each episode to a microSD card or USB drive, and uploading its stereo mix turns a 2-hour show into text in about 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, the 120 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 380 left, and a 40-episode season of that length, 4,800 minutes, fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.

Off the console, onto the page

The Duo records the show you heard in your headphones. That mix is the file a transcript wants.

Getting the episode off

Recordings land on the microSD card or the USB drive you chose as the destination. Read the card on a computer, connect the console in its file transfer mode, or use RØDE Central or RØDECaster App to export; which route you get depends on your firmware, so check the manual. Then drop the stereo mix on upload page.

Just over the 2 GB line

A stereo 24-bit WAV at 48 kHz takes about 1.04 GB an hour, so a 2-hour episode weighs about 2.07 GB, a hair over the 2 GB that uploads before a pack. It starts once a pack is on the account, or convert it to an MP3 of around 115 MB and it goes up at once.

Multitrack is for the edit

With multitrack on, the Duo can keep each input on its own track as well as the mix. Those separate tracks are for fixing levels later. For text, upload only the mix: the conversation stays in order and the episode is billed once.

From transcript to show notes

The episode returns with a brief of the thesis and takeaways, timestamped chapters ready to paste into the episode page, and every name, number and date mentioned, with hosts and guests named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.

Console podcasts elsewhere

A podcast console makes long episodes easy to record and awkward to hand off.

✗ Where episodes get stuck

A finished show, still not written down.

  • Each track uploaded and billed again
  • The OpenAI Whisper API stopping at 25 MB
  • A 2.07 GB WAV refused
  • Episodes cut into halves
  • Show notes written from memory
  • Chapters timed by hand

✓ Send the mix

An episode page drafted from the text.

  • The stereo mix as the Duo wrote it
  • About 4 minutes for 2 hours
  • One file up to 10 hours
  • Chapters for the episode page
  • Quotes for the social cut
  • VTT captions for the video

Sample

A two-host episode recorded on a console, as it comes back.

Illustrative and written for this page; it is not from a real podcast. The timestamps follow a 2-hour episode.

FAQ

RØDECaster Duo recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 2-hour Duo episode take?

Around 4 minutes. A 3-hour special takes about 6.

What does a full season of Duo episodes cost?

A first visit includes 20 free minutes; a longer episode previews before you buy. One 2-hour episode uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Sixteen of them, 1,920 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, and a 40-episode season fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes. A team that records every week can also use the $19 monthly Workspace.

Is the phone or USB guest on the mix?

If you heard them in your headphones during the show, they are usually in the stereo mix. Play a minute of the file before uploading to be sure.

Do the sound pads end up in the text?

No. Jingles, sound effects and music are left out, and the speech around them is transcribed. A pad fired under a sentence can blur a word or two.

Can I upload the episode from my phone?

Yes, if the file is on the phone: this page takes a file from any browser. If the episode is already on YouTube, Vimeo or a podcast feed, paste the link instead and nothing uploads at all.

Is there a RØDE integration, and who hears the show?

There is none; WhipScribe has no integration with RØDE hardware or apps, and no bot joins your recording. You export a file and upload it. Each episode is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training, and it downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
