Transcribe a PodTrak P4 recording straight from the mix file.
A two-hour episode recorded on a Zoom PodTrak P4 is text in about 4 minutes, and your first recording gets the first 20 minutes free. Upload the stereo mix WAV from the P4's microSD card rather than each mic's track, and the episode uses 120 minutes of a $6 pack of 500.
What the P4 gives you
The mix file already has every voice in it.
Which file to pick
The P4 writes WAV files to its microSD card and can save each mic input as its own track next to a stereo mix of the whole show. The mix is the one to upload. A single-mic track holds one voice and long gaps, and it would be charged for the full episode length on its own.
A two-hour show by the numbers
A 16-bit stereo WAV at 48 kHz is about 690 MB an hour, so a two-hour mix is near 1.4 GB and uploads before any pack. The episode uses 120 minutes, which leaves 380 of the $6 pack for the next three episodes of similar length.
Sound pads and phone guests
Jingles, stingers and music beds fired from the sound pads are not transcribed; the speech around them is. A guest who joined through the phone input is in the mix like everyone else, and the brief names them alongside the hosts.
Show notes from the transcript
Chapters with timestamps give you the episode outline, the names, numbers and dates mentioned give you the links list, and the key quotes are ready for the episode page. The chat answers questions such as which book a guest recommended, with the minute it was said.
Why P4 episodes get expensive elsewhere
Four mics should not mean four bills.
✗ Uploading every track
Tools that bill per file per minute charge the same two hours once per microphone.
- A two-hour show billed as eight hours
- Sound pad audio clogging the text
- A monthly plan for a fortnightly show
- Show notes typed from memory
- Caption files made by a different tool
- No timestamp for the quote you want
✓ The P4 mix, sent once
One stereo file from the card, one transcript, one set of chapters for the edit.
- 120 minutes for a two-hour episode
- About 4 minutes to process
- Hosts named in the summary and chapters
- Show notes drawn from chapters
- SRT and VTT from the same pass
- Credits carried to next episode

FAQ
PodTrak P4 episodes, the usual questions.
How long does a two-hour P4 episode take to transcribe?
Around 4 minutes after the upload, since processing runs at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A batch of five episodes uploaded together finishes in roughly the time it takes to write one episode description.
How much does a two-hour P4 episode cost?
It uses 120 minutes, which the $6 pack of 500 covers with 380 left, enough for three more episodes of that length. Twenty such episodes come to 2,400 minutes, which is a job for the $24 pack of 5,000. If this is your first upload, its first 20 minutes are free.
Do I upload the mix or the separate tracks?
The mix. Each separate track is billed for its full length and holds one voice, so it gives a weaker summary than the conversation as a whole. If a host's mic was the only one live for a section, the mix still has it.
Is a long P4 WAV too large?
A two-hour stereo mix near 1.4 GB uploads before any pack. The limits are 2 GB before your first pack, then 5 GB or 10 hours per file, so even a long-running live special fits in one upload.
Can the show be in a language other than English?
Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, including Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Tagalog, and a show that switches between English and Tagalog is handled in one recording.
What formats do I get, and is my show kept private?
Captions and documents alike: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. The P4 audio is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training, and unreleased episodes stay in your Library until you delete them.
