Transcribe lectures recorded on a Roland R-07 from the front row to revision notes.
A 75-minute lecture recorded on a Roland R-07 comes back as text in about 2.5 minutes, from the WAV or MP3 file on its microSD card. The first 20 minutes are free; a week of two lectures uses 150 of the $6 pack's 500 minutes, and a 14-week course of 28 lectures, 2,100 minutes, needs the $24 pack of 5,000.
From the lecture hall
The R-07 fits in a shirt pocket and records the whole hour. Here is how that hour becomes notes.
Getting the lecture off
The R-07 records to a microSD card. Connect it to a computer by USB and it normally shows up as a drive, or take the card out and use a reader. The Bluetooth link to Roland's phone app is mainly for control; for an hour-long file the cable is the dependable route. Then drag the file onto this page.
Bigger files and the upload page
This box takes files up to 500 MB, which covers a 75-minute MP3 at about 72 MB with room to spare. A 44.1 kHz, 16-bit WAV of the same lecture is near 794 MB, so it continues on the main upload page, still up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.
A course, priced
Two 75-minute lectures a week for 14 weeks is 28 lectures and 2,100 minutes. That sits just past the $12 pack's 2,000, so the course goes on the $24 pack of 5,000, leaving 2,900 minutes for a second course. One week alone fits the $6 pack.
What a lecture becomes
The brief states the lecture's main argument and takeaways, chapters mark each topic with a timestamp, and the terms, names, figures and dates the lecturer said are listed for revision. The questions the lecture answers are set out, and the chat explains a point you missed without replaying the hour.

FAQ
Roland R-07 lectures, answered.
How long does a 75-minute R-07 lecture take?
About 2.5 minutes, since processing runs at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A three-hour evening seminar from the same recorder takes about 6.
What does a whole course cost?
A course of 28 lectures of 75 minutes is 2,100 minutes, which goes on the $24 pack of 5,000. A shorter course of 26 such lectures is 1,950 minutes and fits the $12 pack of 2,000. Minutes never expire, so leftovers carry into next term.
Should I record lectures in WAV or MP3?
For speech, a good MP3 setting gives the same words in a much smaller file and keeps every lecture under this page's 500 MB box. Menu names differ between firmware versions, so check the R-07 manual for the format setting.
Do I need permission to record a lecture?
Ask the lecturer or follow your institution's rules on recording before you press record. The transcript is for your own study.
What if the lecture is in another language?
The language is detected automatically from 99 options, and a lecture that quotes English terms inside another language keeps them.
Which formats can I download, and is it private?
Lectures download as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Lectures are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. The R-07 has no link to WhipScribe; you choose what to upload.
