Transcribe long interviews filmed on a Sony a6700 a full day of clips, read in minutes.
An 8-hour interview day filmed on a Sony a6700 comes back as text in about 16 minutes, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, in files up to 10 hours or 5 GB each. Your first 20 minutes cost nothing, and the 480 minutes of the day sit inside the $6 pack of 500 minutes, leaving 20.
From the card to the cutting room
A mirrorless camera on a tripod records the interview. The transcript tells the editor where the answers are.
Where the clips are
Sony cameras usually store video in a PRIVATE folder on the card, with the clips inside a subfolder named CLIP, as MP4 files. Copy them with a card reader or Sony's own software. If your folders look different, check the camera's recording format in the menu.
Each clip as it is, or the audio
High-bitrate 4K can run to tens of gigabytes an hour, far above the 5 GB a file may be. Export each clip's audio, or a day's audio in one file, from your editor: as a 128 kbps MP3 eight hours is about 460 MB. Video clips that fit the limit go through the main upload page.
Long takes on a small body
Battery, card space or heat can stop a long take on a compact body, so a day is usually several clips. Transcribing each clip separately keeps the timestamps aligned with the footage in the editor, which is often exactly what the edit needs.
Sound for the words
The transcript is only as good as the sound. A lavalier or shotgun into the camera's input beats the built-in mic for a seated interview. People are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and SRT and VTT are ready for subtitles.

FAQ
Sony a6700 recordings: what people ask
How long does an 8-hour day take?
About 16 minutes in total. A single 40-minute clip takes a little over a minute.
What does a shoot week cost?
A first visit gives you 20 free minutes, and longer files are previewed first. One 8-hour day is 480 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Five days, 2,400 minutes, go past the $12 pack, so they fit the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes with 2,600 left.
My clip is 9 GB. Can it upload?
Not as it is: one file can be up to 5 GB, and up to 2 GB before the first pack. Export the audio, which is a small fraction of the size, and upload that.
Is there a Sony app connection?
No. WhipScribe has no integration with Sony's cameras or apps. You copy the clips, export the audio if needed, and upload.
Can the interviews be in another language?
Yes. Any of 99 languages is detected automatically, and an interview that switches language is transcribed on its main one. English terms inside the speech, such as product names or job titles, are handled as they are said.
Where is the footage processed?
On our own servers. Recordings are never used for training, and you can delete them with their transcripts at any time. Exports come as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON, so the producer, the editor and the subtitler each get the format they work in.
