XAVC MP4 · M4ROOT/CLIP · about 2 min per hour

Transcribe a long Sony A7 IV recording a talking-head episode or an interview.

A 90-minute talking-head episode shot on a Sony A7 IV comes back as text in about 3 minutes, from the audio, a 1080p copy or a YouTube link, since the original MP4 can be larger than the 5 GB a file may be. The first 20 minutes are free, one episode fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes, and a year of weekly episodes fits the $24 pack of 5,000.

From the A7 IV to the text

Long talking-head video is mostly one voice. That voice is all the transcript needs.

Where the files sit

The A7 IV saves its XAVC video as MP4 files on the card, inside PRIVATE, then M4ROOT, then CLIP. Copy the clips with a card reader, or let your editor import them, then export what you need for the transcript.

How big an episode is

Bitrate times duration gives the size. At 100 Mbps an hour is about 45 GB, so a 90-minute episode is near 67 GB, while its audio as a 128 kbps MP3 is about 86 MB. Export the sound, or a 1080p copy under 5 GB, and the upload takes moments.

Already published?

If the episode is on YouTube, public or unlisted, or on Vimeo, paste the link and we fetch it ourselves. A Google Drive share link works the same way. No file leaves your computer.

Episode to text, and more

You get a brief, chapters with timestamps ready for the video description, key quotes for social posts, and the names and numbers mentioned. The SRT file gives captions for the edit, and a large export can also go through the upload page.

Mirrorless video elsewhere

A good-looking camera file is a heavy one, and most tools stop at the size.

✗ Where it stalls

Long, sharp and heavy: three reasons to be refused.

  • 25 MB is the most the OpenAI Whisper API accepts
  • Free tiers well under 90 minutes
  • Chapters written by scrubbing the timeline
  • Captions typed line by line
  • Show notes drafted from memory
  • Clips refused for size

✓ With the audio

One small file per episode, a full set of text back.

  • Audio export, proxy or published link
  • An episode back in about 3 minutes
  • Chapters ready for YouTube descriptions
  • Captions as both SRT and VTT
  • Free first 20 minutes for newcomers
  • A year of episodes on one $24 pack

This sample is illustrative and was written for this page; it is not from a real channel. Roles stand in for names, and the timestamps show a 90-minute episode.

FAQ

Sony A7 IV recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 90-minute A7 IV episode take?

About 3 minutes, because processing runs at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. The resolution of the original video does not change that.

What does a year of weekly episodes cost?

Fifty-two episodes of 90 minutes are 4,680 minutes, which fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes, at $0.29 an audio hour. A month of four is 360 minutes on the $6 pack of 500. New visitors get the opening 20 minutes free. A channel that records every week may prefer the $19 monthly Workspace instead.

Can I upload the original clip?

If it is 5 GB or less, yes, and 2 GB or less before a pack. A 90-minute clip at a high bitrate is usually bigger, so export the audio or a 1080p copy.

Do long clips need splitting?

No, unless a single file runs past 10 hours. If the camera made several clips, upload each one, or join their audio for one transcript.

Can an episode be in Spanish or Japanese?

99, without a setting, including Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Swedish. A host who switches language is transcribed on the episode's main one.

Which exports, and what happens to my video?

Pick from TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Videos are transcribed on our own servers and never used to train a model; you can delete each episode and its text at any time.
