Sony FX30 · audio export · up to 10 h a file

Transcribe a long Sony FX30 interview day from a timeline audio export.

Six hours of interviews shot on a Sony FX30 come back as text in about 12 minutes when you upload an audio export of the day rather than the camera files, which run to tens of gigabytes. The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor, and the 360 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes, leaving 140.

Cinema camera, plain transcript

Everything that makes an FX30 file large is something the transcript ignores.

Bitrate is the whole story

Picture data dominates the size of a cinema clip. At 240 Mbps one hour is about 108 GB, and even at 80 Mbps it is around 36 GB. Either way a day of interviews is far beyond the 5 GB a file may be, while the same day's sound is a few gigabytes at most.

Export from the timeline

Drop the day's clips on a timeline in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut, then export audio only. One file per interview is tidiest; MP3 keeps each one small, and WAV is fine when it stays under 5 GB.

Proxies and separate recorders

If proxy recording was switched on, the small proxy files carry the same sound and may be light enough to upload as they are; check their size first. When a separate recorder captured the lavs, its files are the better source, and the camera audio becomes the backup.

From transcript to paper edit

Each interview returns with a brief, chapters with timestamps, key quotes and the names, dates and figures mentioned, with interviewer and subject named in the summary, quotes and chapters. Download DOCX for the producer, and JSON when your tools read timestamps from data.

Interview days elsewhere

The bigger the camera, the further its files sit from any transcription tool.

✗ What usually happens

A shoot day is easy to film and hard to read.

  • Camera files dozens of gigabytes each
  • Short limits on uploads and length
  • The day cut into hour-long pieces
  • Selects logged by rewatching
  • Typed transcripts arriving days later
  • Quotes that do not match the timeline

✓ Here

Audio exports in, a document per interview out.

  • Every export up to 10 hours or 5 GB
  • Around 12 minutes for 6 hours of talk
  • Timestamps that match your export
  • DOCX for producers, JSON for tools
  • 20 minutes free before buying
  • Credits kept until the next shoot

FAQ

Sony FX30 interview days: common questions.

How long does a 6-hour FX30 day take?

About 12 minutes in all, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. Each interview uploaded as its own file finishes in a few minutes.

What does a full documentary cost?

One 6-hour day is 360 minutes of the $6 pack of 500. Forty hours of interviews, 2,400 minutes, fit the $24 pack of 5,000. The first 20 minutes on a first visit are free.

Can I upload the original clips?

Only a clip of 5 GB or less, and 2 GB or less before a pack; at cinema bitrates that is a few minutes of picture. Export the audio and the transcript is the same.

One file for the day or one per interview?

One per interview is easier to work with, since each gets its own brief and chapters. A whole-day file also works if it stays under 10 hours.

Do the interviews have to be in English?

No. 99 languages are detected without any setting. An interview that switches between two languages is transcribed on its main one.

What exports come from an FX30 day, and is it private?

TXT and DOCX, SRT and VTT, plus JSON. Your rushes are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training; delete a file and its transcript goes with it.
