Remote interviews, separate tracks · mixed file or one track · about 2 min per audio hour

Transcribe a long SquadCast recording as one mixed file, or one track.

A long SquadCast interview is transcribed by downloading the mixed file, or a single participant's track, and uploading it here, up to 10 hours or 5 GB. A 90-minute interview comes back in about 3 minutes; the first 20 minutes are free, and five 90-minute interviews fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.

For interview podcasts

SquadCast gives you a track per person. For the transcript, the mix is usually the one you want.

Mixed file first

Every voice in one file means one transcript in conversation order, and the minutes are counted once. Download the mix, or export one from your editor, and drop it on the upload page.

One track when you need it

A single participant's track is useful when you want only the guest's answers, or when one voice was hard to hear in the mix. Uploading every track separately counts each one's full length.

Names in the summary

The host and guest are identified and named in the summary, the key quotes and the chapters, which is what episode notes and quote graphics need.

Questions, answered and listed

The questions the interview answers are listed alongside the names, numbers and dates said, each with a timestamp you can drop into show notes. The chat over the transcript finds the minute a guest named a book or a place.

Multi-track interviews elsewhere

Separate tracks are great for editing and awkward for transcription if you send them all.

✗ Sending every track

Each track is transcribed alone, then someone stitches the conversation back together. Separate tracks also hold long silences while the other person talks.

  • Paying for the same 90 minutes three times
  • Answers and questions in separate documents
  • Large WAV tracks hitting upload limits
  • The OpenAI Whisper API stopping at 25 MB
  • Quotes copied without the right name
  • Show notes written from a rough listen

✓ Sending the mix

One file, one conversation, read in order with its structure marked. If one voice was faint in the mix, transcribe that person's track on its own as well.

  • Text about 3 minutes after a 90-minute upload
  • The interview costed once at its length
  • Host and guest named in quotes
  • Chapters per topic
  • Questions answered, listed
  • Five interviews on the $6 pack

00:01:30 Thanks for joining from so far away. What time is it there?
00:02:05 Nearly midnight, but I had a coffee, so ask me anything.
00:44:18 You said earlier the second book took three years. What made it slower than the first?
01:27:52 Honestly, I threw away the first draft. The version people read is the third one.

FAQ

SquadCast recordings, answered.

How long does a 90-minute SquadCast interview take?

Close to 3 minutes; every hour of audio takes about 2 minutes. A 3-hour conversation is around 6.

What does a season of interviews cost?

Your first visit comes with the first 20 minutes free and a preview of anything longer. A 90-minute interview uses 90 minutes, so five fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 50 left. Uploading all three tracks of the same interview would use 270, which is why the mix is the better buy. A 20-episode season of 90-minute mixes, 1,800 minutes, fits the $12 pack.

How large are the tracks?

An uncompressed WAV at 48 kHz, 16-bit mono is 48,000 x 16 = 768 kbps, about 346 MB per hour, so a 90-minute track is near 518 MB. That is well inside 5 GB, and inside the 2 GB that uploads allow before your first pack.

Does a long SquadCast session need splitting?

Not unless the session runs past 10 hours, the per-file limit. Most interviews go up as one file. A session that was paused and resumed can produce more than one file; upload each as it is.

My guest speaks another language. Will that work?

Yes. The main language is detected automatically among 99, and an interview where host and guest switch languages is read on the main one with the switches handled. If host and guest used different languages throughout, each track can also be uploaded alone so each is read on its own.

Which exports are there, and who hears the interview?

Interviews export as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. WhipScribe is not integrated with SquadCast; it reads the file after the session.
