Transcribe a long Streamlabs Desktop recording from the copy on your drive.
A long Streamlabs Desktop recording is transcribed by uploading the local file, up to 10 hours or 5 GB, or by pasting the Twitch, Kick or YouTube VOD link. A 6-hour stream comes back in about 12 minutes; the first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the full 360.
For streamers
A six-hour stream has a story in it. The transcript lets you find it without rewatching the night.
The local copy or the VOD
Streamlabs Desktop saves recordings to the path and format set in its output settings; check there for the folder. If the stream is on Twitch, Kick or YouTube, paste that link instead and nothing is uploaded.
Talk, not alerts
Background music, alert sounds and game effects are not transcribed. What you said to chat, and any guest whose voice was mixed in, is. Donation messages read aloud by text-to-speech may appear, since they are speech.
Segments you can title
Chapters split the stream where the subject changes, from just chatting to the main game to a Q and A, each with a timestamp you can paste into a VOD description.
What you told viewers
Dates, giveaway rules and schedule changes you announced are listed with their minute, and the chat over the transcript answers questions like when you mentioned the next collab.
Long streams elsewhere
A six-hour local recording is too big for most upload boxes and too long to rewatch.
✗ Working from the recording
The file sits in a folder, gigabytes large, and the good moments live only in memory. By the time you have rewatched it, the next stream has started.
- Files many gigabytes in size
- The OpenAI Whisper API takes 25 MB at most
- Rewatching to build a highlight list
- Schedule announcements lost in the VOD
- Subtitles never made for the upload
- Cutting the night into pieces just to get text
✓ The same stream here
One file or link, and the night comes back in order with timestamps. The highlight list almost writes itself from the chapters and quotes.
- Text about 12 minutes after a 6-hour upload
- Chapters ready for the VOD description
- Announcements listed with times
- Key quotes for clips you cut
- SRT and VTT for uploads
- One stream inside the $6 pack

FAQ
Streamlabs Desktop recordings, answered.
How long does a 6-hour Streamlabs recording take?
Roughly 12 minutes; each audio hour takes around 2 minutes. On /proof/long-files a 9.31-hour file finished in 1,033 seconds.
What does a month of long streams cost?
The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit; past that the recording is previewed and a pack from $6 transcribes the rest from where the preview ended. One 6-hour stream is 360 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Four of them are 1,440 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
The local file is too big. What now?
At 6 Mbps a 6-hour recording is 6 x 3,600 x 6 = 129,600 megabits, about 16.2 GB, over the 5 GB limit. Paste the VOD link, or convert the recording to MP3 first; at 128 kbps the same 6 hours is about 346 MB. Until your first pack, the upload ceiling is 2 GB.
My stream ran past 10 hours. Is one upload possible?
No. A single file or VOD stays within 10 hours, so a longer stream goes in as two parts. VODs longer than 6 hours start once a pack is on the account. Splitting at a natural break, such as a game change, keeps the chapters tidy.
I stream in Spanish and drop into English. Does that work?
Yes. The language is detected automatically among 99, and a stream that switches is read on its main language with the switches handled.
Which exports come back, and does anyone else see the stream file?
Streams export as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. There is no Streamlabs plugin or bot; WhipScribe works on the recording afterwards.
