Transcribe a Tascam DR-05X recording and revise from the text.
A 90-minute lecture recorded on a Tascam DR-05X becomes text in about 3 minutes, and the first 20 minutes are free on your first recording. The recorder saves WAV or MP3 to a microSD card; either uploads as it is, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes covers five such lectures.
From a recorder on the desk to notes
A small stereo recorder, a full lecture, a page you can search.
Getting the file off
The DR-05X records to a microSD card. Connect it to a laptop with a USB cable and it appears as a drive, or put the card in a reader, then drag the file into the box above. On a shared campus computer, copy it to Google Drive and paste the share link instead.
WAV or MP3 for lectures
A 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV is about 635 MB an hour, so a 90-minute class is near 950 MB. An MP3 at 128 kbps is about 58 MB an hour. Both upload before any pack, and both give the same transcript, so MP3 is the easier choice for a term of recordings.
A term on one pack
Twenty-eight lectures of 90 minutes are 2,520 minutes, which needs the $24 pack of 5,000 and leaves room for a second module. A single module of fourteen lectures is 1,260 minutes, which the $12 pack of 2,000 covers. The minutes do not expire between terms.
Revision from the transcript
Each lecture comes back with chapters you can jump between, the brief's thesis and takeaways, and the dates, figures and names the lecturer said. The chat answers a question like where the second example was worked through, with the minute to replay.
Why lecture recordings sit unused
Ninety minutes of audio is hard to revise from.
✗ Recorder files left on the card
Most lecture recordings are never replayed, because finding one point means scrubbing through an hour and a half.
- Scrubbing audio for one definition
- Typing notes back at double speed
- Free tools that stop after 30 minutes
- A subscription for one exam season
- Questions from the room lost
- No way to search across weeks
✓ Each DR-05X lecture as text
Upload after class and read, search and quote it the same evening.
- About 3 minutes per 90-minute class
- The first 20 minutes free
- Five lectures on a $6 pack
- Questioners named in the summary
- Chapters for each topic
- DOCX for your notes folder

FAQ
Tascam DR-05X recordings, explained.
How long does a 90-minute DR-05X lecture take to transcribe?
About 3 minutes, since processing runs at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A three-hour seminar is about 6 minutes.
What does a term of DR-05X lectures cost?
One 90-minute lecture uses 90 minutes, so the $6 pack of 500 covers five. A module of fourteen lectures is 1,260 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000, and a full term of twenty-eight is 2,520 minutes on the $24 pack of 5,000. A first-time visitor reads the first 20 minutes of the first lecture free.
Is a WAV from the DR-05X too big?
No. A 90-minute WAV is under 1 GB, below the 2 GB that uploads before a first pack. One file can be up to 5 GB or 10 hours, so even an all-day workshop in WAV fits.
The recorder split one lecture into two files. What now?
Upload both. Each becomes its own transcript, in order, and the timestamps of the second start from zero. If you prefer one document, join them in an audio editor first and upload the joined file.
Can lectures be in languages other than English?
Yes, 99 are detected automatically, including Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Swedish and Hebrew. A lecture that moves between English and Tagalog is handled within one recording.
Which exports are there, and who can hear the lecture?
You get TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON for every lecture. Your lecture recordings are transcribed on our own servers, are never used for training, and can be deleted along with the text whenever you like.
