Transcribe a Windows Sound Recorder file the meeting, not just the minutes.
Windows Sound Recorder saves recordings as M4A by default, in the Sound recordings folder inside Documents, and WAV or MP3 can be chosen in its settings. A two-hour meeting recorded that way is transcribed here in about 4 minutes, with the first 20 minutes free.
Recorded on a Windows laptop
Press record, sit through the meeting, get the text after.
Find it in Sound recordings
Sound Recorder keeps its files in Documents, in a folder called Sound recordings. Right-click a recording in the app and choose Show in folder to open it, then drag the file onto the upload box.
M4A by default, WAV if you chose it
The default M4A is small, tens of megabytes per hour of voice. If the format setting was switched to WAV, an hour of stereo can be several hundred megabytes; files over 500 MB go in from the upload page, and above 2 GB they start once a pack is on the account.
Four minutes for two hours
A two-hour meeting is back in about 4 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A full afternoon of five hours takes about 10.
Minutes from the brief
The brief states what the meeting decided and its takeaways, chapters mark each agenda item with a timestamp, and the names, numbers and dates spoken are pulled into a list. People are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
What happens to most meeting recordings
The laptop recorded it all. Somebody still has to write the minutes.
✗ A recording and a blank page
The meeting is captured, but the minutes still come from somebody's notes.
- Replaying two hours to check one decision
- An email attachment limit on the file
- A transcriber that quits after the first agenda item
- A monthly subscription for occasional meetings
- Action items that nobody wrote down
- Notes that disagree with what was said
✓ The recording, transcribed
Drag the file in and draft the minutes from the text. Sound Recorder needs no add-ons for this; the file it already saves is the one to upload.
- M4A, WAV or MP3 accepted as saved
- Roughly 2 minutes per meeting hour
- Chapters for each agenda item
- Names, numbers and dates listed
- 500 minutes for $6, never expiring
- Five download formats

FAQ
Windows Sound Recorder files, answered.
How long does a Sound Recorder file take to transcribe?
Roughly 2 minutes per meeting hour after the upload. A two-hour meeting is typically back in about 4 minutes, and the text waits in your Library.
What does a two-hour meeting cost?
A two-hour meeting draws 120 minutes. The first 20 are free for a first-time visitor, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the rest with 380 to spare. A team that records a weekly two-hour meeting and wants a shared space can look at the $19 a month Workspace.
Will a long WAV upload?
Yes, up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Before the first pack, files up to 2 GB start right away; a longer stereo WAV can be switched back to M4A in Sound Recorder's settings for the next meeting.
Does a long meeting file need cutting into parts?
Only if it runs beyond 10 hours. Otherwise upload the whole recording, so every chapter time matches the original file.
Does it work for meetings that are not in English?
Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, and English mixed with Tagalog in one meeting is handled. Bisaya, Ilocano and other regional Philippine languages come back as a fast first draft; plan one review pass.
Which downloads are offered, and who can access the meeting audio?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON are all available from the same run. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
