Transcribe long recordings from a Zoom H3-VR the room in 360, the words in text.
A 3-hour panel recorded on a Zoom H3-VR transcribes in about 6 minutes when you upload a stereo or binaural file; the 4-channel ambisonic file of the same session is about 6.2 GB at 48 kHz and 24-bit, over the 5 GB limit. The first 20 minutes are free, and the panel's 180 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
From four capsules to one transcript
The H3-VR captures the whole room. The transcript only needs the voices.
Which file to send
Depending on its settings, the H3-VR records ambisonic audio and can also write a stereo or binaural version to the microSD card. Upload the stereo or binaural file: it carries every voice the capsules heard in a format a transcript can read. If you only kept the ambisonic file, decode it to stereo in an editor or with Zoom's software, then export.
The size sums
At 48 kHz and 24-bit, each channel is about 518 MB an hour. The 4-channel ambisonic file runs about 2.07 GB an hour and a stereo file about 1.04 GB, so three hours of stereo is about 3.1 GB. That uploads once a pack is on the account; a 128 kbps MP3 of the same three hours is about 173 MB.
Where it uploads
The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB, which suits an MP3 export. A stereo WAV of several GB continues on upload page, where one file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB.
A series of sessions
The panel's 180 minutes come from the $6 pack of 500. A twelve-part series of 3-hour sessions, 2,160 minutes, is just over the $12 pack, so the $24 pack of 5,000 is the right one.
Ambisonic recordings elsewhere
A format made for headsets is a heavy file to send to a transcript.

FAQ
Zoom H3-VR recordings, the common questions.
Can I upload the 4-channel ambisonic file?
A short one may upload, but it is large and gives the transcript nothing extra. A stereo or binaural file is what to send, and it is far smaller.
How long does a 3-hour session take?
About 6 minutes, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A full 8-hour conference day takes about 16.
Do the file sizes change with the sample rate?
Yes. The sums here assume 48 kHz and 24-bit; at higher rates the files grow in proportion. An MP3 export is the simple way back under 500 MB.
What if the session runs over 10 hours?
Upload it as two files, cut at a break. Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and uploads up to 2 GB go through before the first pack.
Is any of it free?
On a first visit, the first 20 minutes are free. A recording that fits transcribes in full; a longer one is previewed, and a pack from $6 transcribes the remainder.
What can I download, and is the recording private?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON are all available. We transcribe on our own servers and never use a recording for training. WhipScribe has no link to the recorder or its software.
