Transcribe long Zoom local recordings straight from your Zoom folder.
A Zoom local recording is saved on your computer, usually in a Zoom folder inside Documents, as an MP4 video plus an audio-only M4A, and uploading the M4A here turns a 3-hour meeting into text in about 6 minutes. Those 180 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes, each file can run to 10 hours or 5 GB, and the first 20 minutes are free.
From the Zoom folder
Local recordings never touch the cloud, so the file is already on your disk.
Finding the folder
By default, Zoom saves local recordings in a folder called Zoom inside Documents, on Windows and Mac alike, with one subfolder per meeting named by date, time and topic. The Zoom app's recordings list can also open the folder for you. Inside are the MP4 video, the audio-only M4A and often a chat text file.
M4A or MP4
Upload the M4A. It carries the same voices as the video in a far smaller file, so a long meeting uploads faster. If the setting to save a separate audio file for each participant was on, there is also a folder of per-person files; for one transcript of the whole meeting, use the combined M4A.
When conversion did not finish
Zoom converts a local recording after the meeting ends. If the app was closed before it finished, the folder may hold files ending in .zoom instead of MP4 and M4A; open Zoom again and let it complete the conversion before you upload. There is no Zoom plugin or bot on our side.
A 3-hour meeting, in minutes and money
Three hours is 180 minutes, which leaves 320 of the $6 pack's 500 for later meetings. Processing runs at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so it is done in roughly 6. The result is a brief with decisions and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, and every attendee named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.

Local recordings pile up on a laptop, unnamed and unread.

FAQ
Zoom local recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 3-hour Zoom local recording take?
Roughly 6 minutes, since processing runs at about 2 minutes per audio hour. On the proof page, a 2.48-hour recording finished in 200 seconds.
What does a long local recording cost?
New visitors get their first 20 Zoom minutes free; a recording longer than that is previewed, and a pack from $6 transcribes the rest from where the preview stopped. A 3-hour meeting uses 180 minutes of the $6 pack of 500. Thirteen weekly 2-hour meetings, 1,560 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000.
Is the MP4 too big, and should I split a very long meeting?
Each Zoom file may run to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before a pack, the upload limit is 2 GB, and larger files start once a pack is on the account. The M4A of the same meeting is much smaller. Only a meeting longer than 10 hours needs two files.
Is this different from a Zoom cloud recording?
Yes. A cloud recording is downloaded from the Zoom web portal; a local one is already in the Zoom folder on the host's computer. Either way you upload the file, as there is no Zoom integration.
Which languages can the meeting be in?
Any of 99, detected automatically with nothing to set. A meeting that switches between English and Tagalog, or another pair, is detected on its main language and the switches are handled.
Which exports come back, and does the local recording stay private?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON all come back. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, so a local recording stays as private as you meant it to be.
