Turkish ASR (Boğaziçi / METU)

What it is

Turkish is a relatively well-covered language in commercial STT but still benefits from domain-specific fine-tunes. Researchers at Boğaziçi University, METU, and adjacent groups have published Turkish-tuned Whisper variants on Hugging Face that materially outperform stock Whisper on Turkish broadcast and call-centre audio. Best fit when the buyer is turkish-language transcription where commercial cloud stt under-performs. The honest caveat: research-grade checkpoints; production deployment is integrator's responsibility. As with any open-weights release, the integrator owns hosting, scaling, and SLA — but the licensing cost is zero and the model can be fine-tuned on in-house audio.
