How is this different from Buzz or MacWhisper?
Those are desktop apps that run Whisper on your own hardware — genuinely good, fully offline, and free or one-time-paid. The trade-offs are per-machine installation, managing model weights yourself, Mac-first support, and usually no speaker speaker separation. This runs in a browser on any OS with speaker separation on by default, at the cost of your audio leaving the machine.
Does it work offline?
No — this is a hosted service, so it needs a connection. If offline is a hard requirement, a local desktop wrapper is genuinely the right answer and we publish honest write-ups of the main ones in our tools directory.
Can I still get the raw Whisper output?
Yes. Export JSON and you get the segment and word-level timing data, including confidence, in a structure you can process yourself. TXT, SRT, VTT, and DOCX are there too.
Do I need an account?
Not to preview — any transcript previews instantly with no signup. your first transcript opens in full for free and the second for $0.99, at any length, and keeps your library between sessions. After that, credit packs are one-time purchases ($8 for 1,000 minutes to start), with no subscription.
What about long files?
Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file, and up to 3 hours before you buy credits. Files over 500 MB continue on the upload page. Long recordings queue and keep processing if you close the tab — the job is server-side, not in your browser.
