How to check a long transcript against the audio, without re-listening to all of it.

On the transcript page, click any line to play the recording from that moment, search for each name or figure, and skip back 10 seconds to hear a phrase again, so checking the passages you will quote takes minutes rather than a full re-listen. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.

A method for long recordings

Six hours of audio. Check the forty lines that matter.

Click, listen, compare

Every line carries its timestamp on the recording's own clock. Click a line and the audio starts there; the back and forward buttons move 10 seconds at a time, enough to hear a mumbled word twice without losing your place. Nobody rewinds through hour four looking for a sentence any more.

Check what matters first

Start with the list of names, numbers and dates that were said, because a wrong letter there costs the most: search each one and listen to every hit. Then check each line you plan to quote, and the passages the chapters mark as decisions or conclusions. Read the rest, and listen only where something sounds off.

Correct it in your own copy

Download the DOCX or TXT and make corrections there, using Find and Replace for a surname misheard the same way twenty times. Keep the timestamps when you edit, so the next person can still go straight to the audio. For legal matters, this is an AI transcript for working from, not a certified or official transcript, and not legal advice.

Where to listen hardest

Crosstalk, a speaker far from the microphone, names nobody spelled out and terms in a second language are the usual weak spots in any long recording. Music, sound effects and crowd noise are not transcribed, so a passage spoken over loud music may come out thin. Speakers are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters; confirm the speaker of any quote against the audio before you cite it.

Checking with and without timestamps

Verification is slow only when you cannot find the moment.

✗ Checking a transcript with no clock

What a long check looks like without timing.

  • Scrubbing six hours to find one sentence
  • Guessing where a quote was said
  • Listening to everything a second time
  • Times that reset in each split part
  • Corrections that lose their place in the audio
  • No list of names to check against

✓ Checking here

Every line leads back to its moment.

  • Click a line, hear that moment
  • 10-second skip back and forward
  • Search across the whole transcript
  • Names, numbers and dates listed for checking
  • One clock across files up to 10 hours
  • DOCX and TXT to correct in your copy

Sample

The kind of lines worth checking twice.

Illustrative sample written for this page, not from a real recording. Names, figures and dates like these are the first things to verify by clicking the line and listening.

FAQ

Checking long transcripts, answered.

How long does it take to check a long transcript?

It depends on what you need. A full re-listen takes as long as the recording. Checking names, figures and every quote you will use takes a fraction of that, because each check is a click and a few seconds of audio.

Where do I correct mistakes?

In the DOCX or TXT you download. Keep each line's timestamp as you edit, so anyone reviewing after you can still click through to the same moment on the transcript page.

How accurate is the first draft?

No single figure holds across recordings. Clear speech on a good microphone needs little correction; a distant speaker over crosstalk needs more. That is why a good check starts with names, numbers and quotes rather than reading line by line.

Does listening back use up minutes?

No. Minutes are spent once, when the recording is transcribed: a 6-hour file is 360 minutes, inside the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes, and replaying lines on the page afterwards spends nothing.

What if the file is over 2 GB or longer than 10 hours?

Before a first pack and with one, a file can reach 5 GB. Past 10 hours, upload two files; part two's times start at zero, so add the length of part one when you cite a time.

Is the audio private while I check it?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete the recording and its transcript once the check is done.
