90-min file · about 3 min · DOCX to PDF

How do you get a PDF transcript? Download DOCX, then save it as PDF.

Transcribe the recording, download the DOCX export and save it as a PDF from Word, Google Docs or Pages: one file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB (2 GB before your first pack), and a 90-minute recording is ready in about 3 minutes, at about 2 minutes per audio hour. The first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes opens the exports and covers five 90-minute recordings with 50 minutes left.

Why DOCX first

A PDF is the last step, after you have fixed what you want fixed.

Transcribe the whole file

Upload the audio or video, or paste a YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive link. This page's upload box accepts files up to 500 MB; a larger recording continues on the upload page, still up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

Edit in DOCX

PDF is a format for reading, not editing. Download DOCX, correct a spelling, add a title page, the date and the names of the participants, and drop the brief and chapter list at the top. Fix it once here, and the PDF is right the first time.

Save as PDF

In Word, the Save As or Export menu usually offers PDF. In Google Docs, look under File, then Download. In Pages, File, then Export To. Menu names shift between versions, but every common word processor has the option somewhere close.

Keep the times close

Chapters carry timestamps, and the app shows a time beside every transcript line. If a reader of the PDF needs to find a moment in the audio, include the chapter list with its times, or add the time beside any passage you quote.

The awkward route

Ways people end up with a poor PDF.

✗ PDF the hard way

The transcript exists somewhere, but not as a document anyone wants to read.

  • Printing a web page full of buttons
  • Converting a caption file line by line
  • A PDF nobody can correct afterwards
  • A wall of text with no headings
  • The recording cut short to fit a tool
  • Retyping it to make it look tidy

✓ DOCX, then PDF

Edit where editing is easy, then lock it as a PDF.

  • About 3 minutes for 90 minutes
  • Corrections made in the DOCX
  • Brief and chapters as the first page
  • Headings from the chapter titles
  • Saved as PDF from your word processor
  • The DOCX kept as the editable copy

FAQ

PDF transcripts, answered.

Is there a direct PDF download?

The exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. DOCX saves as a PDF from any common word processor, and going through DOCX gives you the chance to correct a name or add a cover page first.

What does a term of lectures cost?

Thirty 50-minute lectures are 1,500 minutes, which the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers with 500 left. A single 90-minute recording fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes.

I need the PDF for a record. Is it official?

It is an AI transcript to work from, not a certified or official transcript. If you need a certified one for a court or an authority, use this as a draft and have it certified by whoever your process requires.

Can I print from my phone?

Yes. Download DOCX on the phone, open it in Word or Google Docs on the phone, and use share or print to save a PDF. The menus are smaller, but the steps are the same.

The recording is a VHS or DVD. Can I still get a PDF?

Digitise it first to an MP4 or an audio file, then upload it. Very long tapes over 10 hours go up as two files.

Is the recording private?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Delete the recording and its transcript once you have your PDF, if you prefer.
